What is needed to gain our support is some strong answers to the problems that this city is facing. Nothing less w ill do the job (SAL) Too Many Elections Secretary of State Norma Paulus thinks we have too many elections here in Oregon She doesn’t mean that too many issues are given to the voters, rather that we have to go to the polls too often If everything was to be combined into one or two elections, the turnout might be substantially greater. We agree with Mrs Paulus In an area such as ours w here we have seven school districts, three fire districts, water districts, etc., i t ’s even d iffic u lt for The Post to keep tra c k .. and that's our job Mt. Hood Community College had an election last month, last week some school districts sub- m ined th e ir budget levies Come May 23 we ll have the prim ary election plus tax base elections for M t, Hood and the Hoodland F ire Departm ent Later this sum mer, Bonng F ire w ill seek approval of a levy. E tc . etc., etc. Mrs Paulus sugges* that these many elections shall.-. be com bined Better turnouts inevitably would ensue, and taxpayer's money would be saved in the end I t ’s up to the legislature to change election laws Recent legislatures have, in fact, reduced the num ber of elections—but they should go even further We hope M rs . P aulus pursues her suggestion County commenr by Bill Sanderson There may be no legal or even p ro vab le connection between the spring of the year that brings m the time for prim ary elections and the spring' in which a ’ young m a n 's fan cy tu rn s —etc etc.” Rut there a a certain relation ship between the unusual shenmgans of our political fnends and those of the young men ¿3 the adage as the »itching season for c o u rtin g and p o litic k.n g chaws near.
