The bluff-side, off-street privacy of the home affords the chance for installation of a whirlpool outside bath in an eight-foot circle cut-out in the sundeck, This will all slide indoors in a complete lower level to the house. Some 60 ferns throughout the house carry out Cathy’s nature theme in greens to match the wood browns and stone fireplace. Stones for the downstairs fireplace were carried in from Sandy River for a rustic effect to m irror Forest Service cabins. An in terworking of wood com plements the gray stone of the firenlace. Eventually, the Cooks plan to erect a high cedar fence all around the house. The country kitchen features a portable island 'which can roll out to clear enough room for dancing. Rustic and efficient best describe the beautiful, new cedar home of Cathy and Bruce Cook of Sandy. The building’s clean, dram atic lines spiral skyward behind Scenic Drive for seclusion among the trees. Large picture windows and a sundeck in back open to a view overlooking a bluff and Rosalin Lake in the distance. D ream H ouse It is the dream house of Cathy Cook who designed it on a lot next door to the couple’s previous home. She planned it to fit the young couple’s lifestyle and their personalities. “ We wanted a certain amount of rusticity to the whole house," Bruce said, “but also clean lines, too.” Cathy seconds that. “We needed to have clean lines and simplicity, because I had so many things I’ve collected and had to fit things around." Consequently, there is little wasted space in the amazingly large 2.000 square feet—actually less than the couple had next door. Their love for nature is apparent in the giant Maple tree allowed to continue its free ascent skyward through a cut-out hole in the deck, off the living room. The building’s exterior was sealed so that the cedar will remain one color on the sides and deck, with only the roof affected by weathering The kitchen employs modern solar lighting of layed glass, to draw in extra heat in winter months There’s also an efficient wood-burning stove, with provision for a draft of stove heat rising up a facing wall into the upstairs m aster bedroom. A D um b W aiter A dumb waiter to the master bedroom will carry firewood from downstairs to a second fireplace above. Cathy opted for a large pantry off the kitchen which she hopes to fill this fall with canning. Touch lighting throughout the house was one small concession to the modern. Mrs. Cook designed a long window bench along the picture windows overlooking the lake and river in the distance for the couple’s two small dogs to perch. A complete stereo system is built into the house One can shut off rooms and closets with sliding doors to virtually heat the entire home with the single small wood-burning stove. The Cooks planned for 400- amp electrical service in stead of the common 200. So the move next door wasn't a great obstacle, and decorating was pre-planned The Cooks moved into their completed home just three weeks ago, with paving of the driveway yet to come Construction by Trimble Construction and sub contractors, mostly local, began last October PLEASE NOTE!
