C ynthia Page carries g ra n d m o th e r's Bible Soy sauce casserole Bv Sara Sewell Soy Sauce Casserole 1 lb. hamburger 2 medium chopped onions 1 cup celery I cup warm water 1 can cream of chicken soup 1 cup cream of mushroom soup *» cup uncooked rice V« cup soy sauce l « teaspoon pepper NoSalt Brown meat until crumbly, then add rest of ingredients. Bake in greased casserole 30 minutes covered, then 30 minutes uncovered Cover with crisp Chinese noodles and bake uncovered 15 minutes. Total time 75 minutes at 375 degrees. Orange Pork Chops or Pork Steak 4 center cut loin pork chops 1” thick Salt and pepper Paprika 3 to 4 tablespoons water 5 tablespoons granulated BRANDS Christian Books sugar 14 teaspoons cornstarch * 4 teaspoon salt *■4 teaspoon cinnamon 10 whole cloves 2 teaspoon grated orange rind 4 cup orange juice 4 halved orange slices Generaously sprinkle both sides of chops or- pork steak with salt, pepper and paprika. Cook until golden brown on both sides — 15 -20 minutes. Spoon off grease as it accumulates. When well browned, turn heat low. Add \vater. Cover skillet tightly; cook chops 45 minutes to 1 hour or until fork tender and well done, turning several times during cooking. (You may use your crock pot and cook four hours on high). About 20 minutes before chops are done, make orange glaze; in saucepan combine sugar, cornstarch, salt, cinnamon, cloves, orange rind and juice, stirring and heating until thickened and clear. Add orange slices, cover pan, remove from heat. Serve chops with a spoonful of glaze on top, garnish with orange slices. This is very good served with white and wild rice, and peas with onions. If desired, one may double the sauce recipe and pass it to be served over the rice. — From the files of Ms. Kerry Fix, San Bernardino, Calif. Cod. 1 green pepper, diced thin 1 sweet onion, diced or chopped 1 ( 10‘i ox.) can tomato soup 1 cup salad oil 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup sugar *4 cup vinegar (scant) 4 teaspoon pepper 1 teaspoon prepared mustard 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Combine soup, oil, salt, sugar, vinegar. pepper, mustard and Worcestershire sauce Mix well and pour over vegetables. Marinate overnight or for several hours in refrigerator. Serve on lettuce leaf as a salad, or in a dish as a vegetable. Keeps for ages but makes a large amount. This is great to serve at a buffet din ner, or take to a pot-luck din ner. If you make it just for your family, share some with a couple of neighbors. Pear Cake 1 cup Wesson oil 2 cups sugar 3 cups flour 2 teaspoons vanilla 3 cups chopped pears or apples 2 eggs l teaspoon soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup nuts Mix all ingredients well.
