The fashion show, which is sponsored annually by the Sandy Business and Professional Women’s Club to raise money for scholarships, w ill include sports, and swimwear, daytime, evening and wedding clothes modeled by all age groups. Last y e a r’s scholarship recipient was Miss T e rri Martin, a student at Mt. Hood Community College. The cafeteria of the high school will become a rainbow of color with bright tablecloths, spring flowers and a stage decorated with balloons and stuffed circus animals. Background organ music will be played by Judge George H ow eiler. Clyde Sutherland will be the models’ escort. D uring interm ission, en tertainment will be furnished by The Pionairres from Sandy High. Refreshments will be served by girls from the home economics department and Key Club members will assist with setting up tables and chairs. Lighting effects and curtains will be handled by the drama department. Participating stores include The Cat’s Meow Dress Shop, Cedar Plaza Department Store, Debbie Dee’s Apparel. Price changes in the Kiwanis b irthday calendar were discussed. The publishers have raised prices of printing which makes it necessary to increase prices on the local level. The Barlow Unit decided to sponsor the 1975 calendar with a slight increase in price of calendars and ads. M em bers w ill soon be collecting birthday and an n iversary listings fo r the calendar which remains at the same 25 cent price. A donation of »10 was voted fo r the Radio Voice of Americanism broadcasts and a »10 donation to the Sandy Golden Age Club building fund. Spring fever was much in evidence when tours to many places were discussed. Membership is continually growing in the 40 4- H projects available The horse club project is the most rapidly growing at the present time There is always a project available for every interest and need of all rural and urban youth 4-H is an excellent op portunity for boys and girls in an out of school educational program for ages 9 through 19 It provides development of youth into useful citizens. The annual C lackam as County 4-H Club Leaders Banquet will be held April 3, 6:30 p.m at Thora B. Gardiner Junior High School in Oregon City. This banquet is sponsored by Portland General Electric as their tribute to all 4-H leaders in Clackamas County for their volunteer work with the youth of the county. This year Teen Leaders, older 4-H members leading their own clubs, are welcomed for their continued leadership in 4-H There will be two $250 00 scholarships awarded to high school seniors active in 4-H presented by the leaders association fund. There will be two special community awards pesented, one each to an individual and business which have been strong sup porters of the 4-H program. Police arrest Portland men The Sandy Police arrested two Portland residents early Saturday morning on drug charges and for unlawful possession of a weapon. James Arthur Henrie II, 27, was arrested fo r c rim in a l a c tiv ity and possession of amphetamines and cocaine. M ark Daniel McClure, 22, was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and unlaw ful possession of a weapon. Both subjects are presently being lodged in the Clackamas County Jail and are awaiting trial All property confiscated by the police was taken to the Clackamas County crime lab for analysis. The February sales of 127.7 million board feet of timber to be cut over three years brings the total advertised sales for Fiscal Year 1974 (July through June) to $107 million. In comparison, the greatest amount ever bid for timber from BLM-managed lands in Oregon was $130.3 million in 1973. Herbert L. N O R TH C L A C K A M A S PROGRESS REPORT N o rth Clackam as Soil and W a te r C onservation D is tric t Annual R eport 1973 The following are some of the highlights as reported by the directors of the North Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District in their annual report for 1973. The district, a legal entity and tax exempt, comprises the Northern and Eastern portions of Clackamas County. It was organized in 1958 and has progressed to 376 cooperators with 25,432 acres. Cooperation is voluntary and technical assistance is available free of charge by submitting a request to the Board of Directors. The Soil Conservation Service, the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, the Extension Service, and the Farm Home Administration assist the district. Many other County, State, and Federal agencies, businesses, and organizations are also credited with their support. During the past year, 3,684 acres were put into cropping systems; 7 multi purpose water impoundments; 2,183 acres in irrigation water management; 13,810 acres to land ade quately treated, and 16 structures were built for water control. Robert Thompson, raspberry and blackberry producer, was selected as the outstanding cooperator for 1973 by the Board of Directors. CONSOLIDATION The board of directors of the North Clackamas and South Clackamas SWCD's have considered consol idationg into one district, thus forming the Clackamas Co. SWCD.
