Annual R eport
1973
The following are some of the highlights as reported by
the directors of the North Clackamas Soil and Water
Conservation District in their annual report for 1973. The
district, a legal entity and tax exempt, comprises the Northern
and Eastern portions of Clackamas County. It was organized
in 1958 and has progressed to 376 cooperators with 25,432
acres. Cooperation is voluntary and technical assistance is
available free of charge by submitting a request to the Board
of Directors. The Soil Conservation Service, the Agricultural
Stabilization and Conservation Service, the Extension Service,
and the Farm Home Administration assist the district. Many
other County, State, and Federal agencies, businesses, and
organizations are also credited with their support.
During the past year, 3,684 acres were put into cropping
systems; 7 multi purpose water impoundments; 2,183 acres
in irrigation water management; 13,810 acres to land ade
quately treated, and 16 structures were built for water
control.

Robert Thompson, raspberry and blackberry producer,
was selected as the outstanding cooperator for 1973 by the
Board of Directors. Conservation cropping systems and
Irrigation Water Management are well used on the Thompson
operation.
CONSOLIDATION
The board of directors of the North Clackamas and South
Clackamas SWCD's have considered consol idationg into one
district, thus forming the Clackamas Co. SWCD. This will
provide the opportunity for better field service and County
and State assistance The directors would be elected by the
General Ballot and in accordance within their zones of the
county The proposed field office would be in Oregon City.
