POST - 3 Sandy student attends school in Germany on her own Ruth Bowman is planning to get in some practice on her German and sluing in the next six months as she prepares to leave on Feb. 2 to attend school in southern Germany. Ruth is a junior at Sandy High School and through the help of German exchange teacher Heinz Blondzik at Sandy High School and Sandy teacher Lee Pickett who is teaching in Blondzik’s place in Germany she has arranged to live with a family in the Ruropean country. Ruth is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.S. Bowman of Rt . 3 Box 310, Sandy, and has been taking German at school for the past three years. “I am not going under any program, it is all on my own,” said Ruth as she is busy counting up the pennies she has earned over the last year working parttime during school and full tim e during the summer. She said that she is surprised that more students have not taken ad vantage of Mr. Blondzik’s attending Sandy High School as she has in fin ding a family to stay with in Germany and to attend school. “I will attend school over there for the remainder of the school year which runs into July and then tour for a month and then come home,” said R U TH BOWMAN is waiting to journey to Southern Germany on Feb. 2 and her new home for several months as she w ill attend school in the town of Radolfzell on Lake Konstanz. The trip is being financed by the girl herself and she will receive no credit from the school district while there. M artin, R-Clackam as County, has been named by House Speaker Robert F. Smith to chair the Committee on State and Federal Affairs. Martin, who was designated in December as Speaker Pro Tem for the 1971 Session, siad, “The State and Federal Affairs * Committee carries one of the heaviest work loads of any House C om m ittee and is considered one of the most important committees in the Legislature.” Rep. Martin’s Committee on State and Federal Affairs will have three such Sub co m m itte es on: “ G overn mental Reorganization”, which w ill be studying reco m mendations to create Depart 4" ments of Natural and Human R esources; “ F inancial Af fairs”, which will consider bills regulating banking and savings institutions; and “State and Federal Affairs”, which will consider the extremely im portant question of federal revenue sharing with the states. In addition to th ese responsibilities, Rep. Martin is one of the few members of the House of Representatives with three committee assignments. He will also serve on the E lection s and R eap portionment Committee and on the House Rules Committee. Sandy Grange The Sandy Grange No. 392 met on Saturday, Jan. 9, with David Ludi, Grange Master presiding. Honor guests of the day were Charles M eans, Pomona M aster; and Bill C allison, ' County District for Clackamas County. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Kurschman of Red Land Grange and Bill Harden of Multnomah Grange. The group heard a talk from Victor Badley on Legislation and Mrs. Edna Amstand reported that the Women's Activity Group met on Jan. 5 for a potluck dinner at Mrs. E.F. Bruns. At their meeting the women decided on several money projects including the collection of g la ss b ottles, Flavor Pak wrappers and MJB coffee labels. Ludi and Anton Bryant were appointed to write a petition to Governor Tom McCall in favor of school support At the next meeting comic valentines will be exchanged and it will be held on Feb. 13 with a potluck lunch being served. D ietm ar, R uth’s future sister, will be finishing her schooling this year and will attend school here on her own next year. Miss Bowman leaves from Portland on Feb. 2 and flies to New York and then to Luxembourg before heading by train to her new home. Ruth said she is looking forward to the chance of getting in some European skiing and lots of travel hopefully ‘‘Although tra v elin g will probably be limited somewhat, because school is six days a week over there,” she com mented. Ruth. But one of the most exciting parts of her plan is that the family she will be living with in Radolfzell. Germany, Blond zik’s home town, will send their daughter who is Ruth's age back to Sandy to attend school here next year. The family Ruth will be staying with is the Ludwig Tanda family and there are two kids in the family Dagmar the daughter Ruth’s age 16, and a boy Dietmar, who is nine years old. Ruth got help from both Heinz Blondzik and Lee Pickett in finding the family to live with in the Germany town which is ■ ■ M M A 6150 short wave radio was reported stolen Jan. 19 from an auto owned by Walter N. Hing, 12S5 SE 192nd Sheriff’s reports said the thieves broke a wing window in the car to gain entry James P. Daniesl, Rt. 1 Box 1434, Sandy, has been nominated along with five other Clackamas County youths for adm ission to serv ice academies. Rep. Wendell Wyatt made the nominations with Daniesl being nominated to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. The selections were made following competitive exams by the U.S. Civil Service Commission. Admission will be based on college board tests, physical exam in ations and review of academic records.
