Sandy student attends school
in Germany on her own
Ruth Bowman is planning to
get in some practice on her
German and sluing in the next
six months as she prepares to
leave on Feb. 2 to attend school
in southern Germany.
Ruth is a junior at Sandy
High School and through the
help of German exchange
teacher Heinz Blondzik at
Sandy High School and Sandy
teacher Lee Pickett who is
teaching in Blondzik’s place in
Germany she has arranged to
live with a family in the
Ruropean country.
Ruth is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. S.S. Bowman of Rt . 3
Box 310, Sandy, and has been
taking German at school for the
past three years.
“I am not going under any
program, it is all on my own,”
said Ruth as she is busy
counting up the pennies she has
earned over the last year
working parttime during school
and full tim e during the
summer.
She said that she is surprised
that more students have not
taken ad vantage of Mr.
Blondzik’s attending Sandy
High School as she has in fin
ding a family to stay with in
Germany and to attend school.
“I will attend school over
there for the remainder of the
school year which runs into
July and then tour for a month
and then come home,” said
R U TH BOWMAN is waiting to journey to Southern
Germany on Feb. 2 and her new home for several months
as she w ill attend school in the town of Radolfzell on Lake
Konstanz. The trip is being financed by the girl herself
and she will receive no credit from the school district
while there.
