The Pioneers, victimized by three narrow setbacks this season, jumped into a 4 4 4 3 lead with just :15 seconds left to play on two free throws by Don Schneider and things looked pretty rosy for the Frontiersmen, until the Foxes’ Don Von Weller fed bid Herr under the basket. The disappointed Pioneers clearly outplayed the Foxes in the first half, even though S.H.S. held a mere 19-17 advantage. Sandy also overshadowed Silverton in the final statistics, except on the scoreboard. The Pioneers converted 4 0 percent (16-40) o f their field goals as compared to 38 percent (17-45) for the Foxes. The Pioneers also hit 12 o f 15 free throws, to 11 o f 18 by the tall boys from central Oregon, siiger and Don Schneider were the chief point getters for the Frontiersmen with 14 and respectively.
