Mrs Eleanor Howard and with two children called on the H wards, her son Billy has been spending summer here. He went home with his moth er leaving his sister Martha for a day or two. S uth America, has been chos en by the American Field Service to be Sandy's Exchange Student during the coming school year Her name is Ros- alda Cortes Rivera, but she prefers to be called "Rose.” according to the letter sent by the AFS. Rose's home is Cali-Valle. Colombia. She is 17 years old. 3'3", and weighs 92 pounds. There are two older sisters in her family. Her Sandy parents will be Mr and Mrs Ralph Hames The local American Field Service committee met last Saturday evening at the Hames residence, with all committee members attending being for mer exchange student parents. Present were the Larry Mei ers. Jack Rowlands and Al Gantenbeins. The group voted to accept the AFS choice as an exchange student for this year. Maybe June was in tune way back then but some where June got off the beaten track. You haven't lived till you waller in the mud and rain berry picking. Don't know of anything more disagreeable un less it is deer hunting in the dust. The mountain berry crew (as we call ourselves) is one great gang. No finer crew of pickers around as far as I'm concerned. While out in the field we even enjoyed a few birthdays. Thanks to Beverly Lintner we even had birthday cakes. July 12 we had chocolate cake for Clyde Shaver and July 15 an other good white cake for Christine Ruegg Hey Lady” is one cook cake baker. We started out a total of 15 but 13 finished with A rating. Will say well done to these 12 — Larry, Julia Paugh, Claudette, Paulette Shibley, Christine, Jennifer Ruegg, Connie Day, Beverly, Keith, Elaine Lintner and to Clyde Ray Shaver. Young Jim Durr took ill while berry picking and is in Gresh am hospital but Jim is doing fine and will soon be home Young Jim Buchanan, Zig Zag, is home again after spend ing a few days in Gresham hospital. Young Jim is hale and hearty now. Martha Ruegg, Wildcat Creek, is home from the hos pital. Martha is feeling pretty chipper once more. Congratulations to a brand new pair of newlyweds. Satur day, July 27, at 9 p.m. Miss Sue Childers, formerly of San dy, became the bride of Sherill Duff of Faubian. Wedding vows were performed by Rev. Fred King. The newlyweds will make their new home in Portland. Hear that Norm Stauffer and new wife were married July 26, so congratulations are in order for the Stauffers. By Post time delivery the canine stork will probably bring another litter of German Shepherds to our house. Prin cess taking all this calmly. Buster is undecided and I'm a nervous wreck. Oh yes, before I forget, all you 4-H rock and mineral kids, get your exhibits to me as soon as you can. Fair time is nye on to being here. Not bad Colson, was that scratch or handicap? AUDREY COLSON I am sure that you will not want your club listing left off the calendar for the next year, so it is not too early to start making plans for this, as I have to have the listings in and paid for by Sept. 1. Be think ing about this. There were quite a few turn ed out for the Pioneer Picnic at Pioneer Park Sunday and there was also a good turnout for the opening of the Oral Hull Blind Camp Sunday; over 200 blind people alone turned out for this. Next Sunday at the Pioneer Park on the Loop highway, the Sandy Rebekahs and Sandy Oddfellows are having their yearly picnic and they are in viting all their friends to come and enjoy a Sunday potluck picnic with them. If the old rain does make an appearance the picnic will be held at the IOOF Hall in Sandy. Coffee and tea will furnished by the committee. Everyone is welcome. Y.F.C. James Efaw, who is in charge of the verstaile group, hails from West Virginia. Efaw sings baritone. The three other voc alists who compose the ensem ble are Jerry Caswell, a na tive of Ohio; Larry Parks, who comes from Minnesota; and Gerald Warren, from Arizona. Caswell sings second tenor, Parks sings bass and plays the violin, and Warren sings first tenor. Daniel Smith, from Flor ida, is accompanist for the en semble. The group is typical of Bob Jones University, Greenville, S. C., which draws its student body of more than 3,000 from every state in the union and some 30 foreign countries. Craig Roston served as ringbearer. Clifford Schlaht was best man with Arlin Schlaht and Bruce Howard serving as ush ers. Fifty guests attended the re ception held in the church. Janice and Barbara Schlaht poured, with Carol Heyden as sisting with the cake and De lores Schmitt with presents. Out of town guests were Mrs. Ginger Houda and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Houda. The bride chose a white suit accented with lavender orchids to wear as the couple left for a wedding trip to the coast. They are now at home in Boring. The Sandy recreation school is in its last two weeks of play school and last Friday saw the following win in the paddle pool and ping pong tournaments. Paddle Pool 1st place winners were Pam Polivka. Tootie Lundbom. Glen na Olson and Julie Schneider. 2nd were Carl Neuenfeldt, Garlan Anderson, D o b b i e Schneider and Vickie Colson. 3rd were Randy Allison. Mike Olson, Marilyn Dove, and Terry Cansler. 4th were Jeff Burdick. Danny York, Geral dine Shafer and Greg Lomax. All the children are looking forward to this Friday's big pet show. This always creates a lot of excitement among the children and sometimes causes a stir among the cats and dogs that are proudly brought and put on display. The following week will be the big parade and the following two weeks will be the swimming at Reynolds swimming pool. ACTIVE DUTY Army Reserve Maj. Howard C. Sanders, of Estacada, com pleted two weeks of annual ac tive dutj training at Oakland Army Terminal. Calif., July 20. HERE and THERE with It was a baby girl born to Mr and Mrs. Clark Wolf form erly of Sandy. It is their first child and they are both as proud as punch. Don Boyles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Boyles of Rt. 1, Boring, and Don Eri son of Mr and Mrs. Elmer Eri of Rt. 3, Boring, left July 9 by plane for Alameda. Calif., for a 12- week training session in the U. S. Coast Guard. They entered the Coast Guard on the Buddy Plan so that they will stay together during their service time if they qualify to gether for the same things. They are both 1963 Sandy high school graduates.
