L. Con verse, Sandy, painted a four by six canvas entitled, “The Great Commission,” and presented it to the Sandy Community, church as a thank offering. “The pastor and the church members have been so kind to me,” Mrs. Converse said, “I thanked them with what talent possess.” The painting depicts a scene from the Bible, showing Christ talking to his disciples on the banks of the Jordan. It took two months to complete, in Mrs. Converse’s spare time. This is her first religious painting and she hopes it will remind her fel low church members that she is with them in spirit though, due to illness, she is unable to attend church services. Mrs. Converse has been inter ested in a rt work since she was a child and has exhibited pen and ink drawings at several county fairs in Gresham. She first began to paint in oils while convalescing in a sanitorium in The Dalles, in 1946. From her hospital window, Mrs. Converse was able to see the twin peaks of The Dalles and she painted the scene from the limited area she was able to Women's Club Has Delegates ram singing, “A Lovely Lullaby” and “Mighty Like A Rose.” A surprise baby shower was given by the members for their sec retary, Mrs. John Metsger. Re freshments were served by the hostess and Mrs. Fields. At the ‘ next regular meeting, May 4, elections will be held on candidates selected by members of the nominating committee, Mrs. Lewis Hall, Mrs. A. C. Baumback and Mrs. Howard Eli- ason. Installation will be in June. Mrs. Robert Jonsrud and Mrs. R. S. Bunnell were elected del egates to the National Woman’s Club convention in Portland, April 20, at the regular meeting of the Sandy Woman’s club Thursday, April 6. Mrs. Jons rud is president of the club and Mrs. Bunnell is vice pres ident. Mrs. Walter Wesselink and Mrs. Richard Wesselink were el ected to the reception commit tee. Hostesses for the meeting were Mrs. Harold Gunderson and Mrs. Richard Olsen. A new member, Mrs. George Floyd, of California, was initiated. Musical Program Given Program chairman for the meeting was Mrs. Alma Francis Fields. Mrs. Norris McDowell sang two solos, “Going Home.” and “The Rosary.” Mrs. Ruth Leum played two piano num bers, “Witches’ Dance,” and “Old Vienna,” and Miss Maryann Ben- cich sang, “I Know A Lovely Garden,” and “Christopher Rob in.” Miss Jean. Scales gave two dramatic readings, “Spring Ar ithmetic,” and “What Shall We Wrap The Baby In?” Mrs. Fields closed the prog W IN A '5 0 Business Club To Give Swedish Smorgasbord A Swedish Smorgasbord will be served by the Sandy Business and Porfessional Women in the Woman’s Club hall, Saturday, April 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. This is the second annual smorgas bord and the club plans to make it a yearly affair. Last year’s dinner, held May 6, featured Swedish food served by the club members in Swedish national costume. Purpose of the dinner is to raise funds for the club’s annual scholarship, given to a worthy girl graduate of Sandy high school so that she may attend business college. Miss Phyllis Clapp, now attend ing beauty college, was winner of the BPW scholarship last year. foro is only her hobby, she has used her works to decorate her home. A resident of Sandy for 13 years, Mrs. Converse has a son, Arden, who is 12. Her husband is a State Highway Department employee on the Mt. Hood Loop highway. Since she is confined to her home often, Mrs. Converse draws on her imagination and the sur rounding scenery for inspiration. “The Great Commission” will be hung on the wall behind the altar in the Sandy Community church. It will serve to inspire others with the grateful spirit of one of its absent members. M S a® Women's Club Serves C. of C, The Sandy Ridge Woman’s club will serve at a n o o n lunch eon meeting for the Sandy Chamber of Commerce, Wednes day, April 19, at the Masonic hall. The public is invited. At the April 5 meeting, held at the home of Mis. David Bell, plans were discussed for the club’s float in the Strawberry Festival parade. Twenty-two members were present with one visitor. The meeting was held all day with a pot luck lunch served a t noon. The next regular meeting of the Sandy Ridge Woman’s club will be held Thursday^ May 4, at the home of Mrs. Norman Isaacson. Hornback Family Reunites In Centralia Three generations of the Hornback family held a reunion in Centralia, Washington, April 8 and 9, at the home of Mrs. J. F. Hornback. About 24 mem bers of the family were present. Those attending from the San dy area were: Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hornback and daughter, Shirley, of Bull Run; Mr. and Mrs. George Hornback and Dar lene Skeslein, of Bull Run; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Colson, of Sandy, and Mr. and Mrs. D. E. McCoy of Portland. The official state flower of Arizona is the bloom of a cactus the Giant Saguard. Hawkins, of Sandy, was m arried to Dr. Walter Noehren in the Fairview Smith Memorial church at Troutdale, Monday, April 10, at 4 p.m. The Reverend John Phillips officiated at the double ring ceremony which was attended by a number of close friends of the bride and groom.
