I t ’s believed that the white phase was the o r iginal, and that the blue phase evolved later. The blue-phase goose was relatively ra re 60 years ago. but has been increas ing and widening its range ever since. One reason given for this Is that hunters p refe r the white goose to the darker one, thereby favoring survival of the blue goose. GLASSES G ET GAME “ Modern hunters re ly heavily on optical glasses to increase their game bags” , says W arren Page, executive vice - president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation. M r. Page, him self a w orld-traveled trophy hunter, repeated this idea even more strongly In saying, “ No need to sympathize with the hunter who wears glasses. He may or may not need ground-in op tical corrections, but with the right glasses, he’ll Increase his game bag over ordinary men.” The reason, went on this ex perienced shooter, is simple enough, In that even the gunner with perfect eyes w ill, by using shooting glasses with h e a t-tre a ted optical lenses, surely save his eyes from stray shot p el lets, w ill protect them from the whiplash of twigs and brush and w ill actually spot game better. M r. Page further states that with yellow lenses, he can pick a bull moose out of the Que bec tim ber 15 minutes later in the evening than with the naked eye. ■ ........ 1 CEDAR BEND DIVOTS Host Pacific held visiting Gold Beach scoreless in the firs« quarter, but let the Panther out of the bag in the second quar ter as Marty Curtis, who rush ed for over 100 yards and scor ed 32 points during the evening, scampered to the endzone from ten yards out. opening the way for the rest of the pack. A 20-yard pass from Kent Crook to Gary Creek, a 40-yard Crook-to-Curtis combination and a 30-yard run by Creek to pay dirt overwhelmed Pacific in the second quarter to the tune cf 240. Late in the second quarter Wayne McCune climaxed a Pa cific (kive with a 11-yard dash to score as the half ended 240 The onslaught continued in the second half as Curtis opened with a 50->iard race to the end zone, followed by Creek from four yards.
