Sees Cousin First Time In Sixty Years ENJOY TRAVELS Mrs. Erma Hague of Port Orford has returned from a long-to-be-remembered va cation trip Into Canada, going with her son, Jack Short and fam ily, from Walla Walla, Wash. At Port Angeles, Wash., the travelers drove to V ictoria, B. C., and boarded “ The Queen of Prince Rupert” fo r the 22- hour trip to Prince Rupert, choosing the stormiest day that area had had all season. Near ly everyone got desparately sick and did not recover until the boat got Into the Narrows where the water was calm. A v isit to Skoglund Hot Springs 20 miles out of Ter race was Interesting, said Mrs. Hague. They were told that a wealthy person from Hollywood had bought an interest In the Springs and would help develop them. The group then went to Wells where there were overnight ac commodations and from where they could v is it the old mining town of B arkerville, which dates back to 1862. The Canadian gov ernment has bought the town and is restoring it. They found the drug store, doctor’ s office, theatre and several other places refurnished and “ inhabited" by wax figures until they were transported back to r e a l pioneer days. A group of ac tors go to B a rke rville and twice a day put on old-fashioned vaudeville shows which fit in with the history of the town. The program Is all recorded and the members of the group were able to purchase records and pictures to remind them of this most interesting exper ience. After leaving Wells and Bar kerville the tourists drove to Kamloops and back Into the United States at Omak, Wash., coming back to Walla Walla the next day, then to Port Orford fo r Mrs. Hague with Mr. and Mrs. K e n n e th Forty. She brought her great-grandsons, Byron and Vernon Forty, sons of Mr. and M rs. Byron Forty of Albany, home with her and w ill take them to Portland this week to attend the wedding of their uncle, Jack Preston. Flynn lormerly was stationed at Cape Blanco with the Coast Guard and has just gotten out of the service,moving to Oregon City from Santa An na, Calif. BACK FROM TRIP M r. and Mrs. Clarence Brooks of Langlois have re turned from a trip with their grandson and granddaughter, Mr. and Mrs. Don Brooks, J r., and great-grandchildren, Kelly and Christy, of Eugene. They firs t went to the Skeenle River in Canada and found they had missed the big salmon run by one week. They planned to go on to v is it their son, Jim , In Alaska, but it was raining all the tim e aixl a tourist told them the road on to where they would take their boat to go on up by way of the Inland Passage was practically impassable (he had broken two springs on his car), they decided to return to Ore gon. Don and fam ily returned by the Coast route and Clarence and Mrs. Brooks took the route through the Okanogan Valley In Washington and down Into East ern Oregon, getting together again at the Rogue River where they camped at various places, finding they had missed the sal mon run there too.
