Mrs. Erma Hague of Port
Orford
has returned from
a long-to-be-remembered va
cation trip Into Canada, going
with her son, Jack Short and
fam ily, from Walla Walla,
Wash.
At Port Angeles, Wash., the
travelers drove to V ictoria, B.
C., and boarded “ The Queen
of Prince Rupert” fo r the 22-
hour trip to Prince Rupert,
choosing the stormiest day that
area had had all season. Near
ly everyone got desparately
sick and did not recover until
the boat got Into the Narrows
where the water was calm.
A v isit to Skoglund Hot
Springs 20 miles out of Ter
race was Interesting, said Mrs.
Hague. They were told that a
wealthy person from Hollywood
had bought an interest In the
Springs and would help develop
them.
The group then went to Wells
where there were overnight ac
commodations and from where
they could v is it the old mining
town of B arkerville, which dates
back to 1862. The Canadian gov
ernment has bought the town
and is restoring it. They found
the drug store, doctor’ s office,
theatre and several other places
refurnished and “ inhabited" by
wax figures until they were
transported
back to r e a l
pioneer days. A group of ac
tors go to B a rke rville and twice
a day put on old-fashioned
vaudeville shows which fit in
with the history of the town.
The program Is all recorded
and the members of the group
were able to purchase records
and pictures to remind them of
this most interesting exper
ience.
After leaving Wells and Bar
kerville the tourists drove to
Kamloops and back Into the
United States at Omak, Wash.,
coming back to Walla Walla the
next day, then to Port Orford
