The students left Port Orford early Thursday morning and visited the State School for the Deaf at inld-inornlng^wherethey observed classes or ¡dl ages In eesaton. Following lunch at the banquet room of the Senator hotel they vtelled the birthplace of O re - gon’ r state government, Cham - poeg, the Kotwrt Newell Home and the state park which con tain* the historical m a rk er, ((he alte of Oregon Provincial government). Oregon marketing waa observed with a trip through M eier and Frank** department store to observe m ercantile M arketing. The class met In the evening at the Senator hotel for a ban quet with M r. and M rs . lo re n P. Steiner, form er principal of the Bandon Junior high, and M r. and M ra . Robert Etieraole as guests. M r. Steiner represent ed the State Board of I deestloa by Invitation and represented D r. Leon M lnear, state super intendent of puhltc Instruction. The gueata ware impressed with the class m e m te rs’ pleasing manners, and excellent delivery of the flag salute, the Pream ble to the Constitution, National Anthem and the state song, “ Oregon My Oregon.’ 1 The eve ning ended with recreational bowling at Eastwood Lanes and a view of the lighted capitol dome. R o b e r t M cKenzie, c l a s s president, presented Gov. .Mark Hatfield with three pieces of stained inyrtlowood candelabra In graduated sizes. The Gov ernor'« office Is encased In myrtleworxl and tie was very pleased with the gifts from the rlgss and showed the students many mementos he had received In ’ the past eight years since hrftias been governor. He ex pressed his regret In leaving office and not being there tn the future to greet the annual v i s i t o r s . Edwards, superintendent of the school, a check for $25. 6 n the return trip through C o rvallis the students had plan ned to visit the Horner Museum but were unable to due to paint ing the building.
