Street Roots • April 21-27, 2017 Poetry Page 13 Caught Red-Handed Seize the Day by Aileen McPherson by Daniel Cox A daily commute, nothing new, walk by the park, a train to catch, Chill in the air, the sweet scent of spring Lingers everywhere, as eyes turn down, shiny on the ground, A nail black and sleek silver sparkles make it complete. Wasted days are ending, Today is a bright new refreshing Dawn to start out the morn With a plan, like maybe Quit the cigarettes. Like kick The habit. Today you, Are limitless, limitless. Seeing this makes my mind race, What are you doing in this place? Did that hurt? Are you okay? Was it an accident? Or were you taken away So many questions, fewer answers, speculations all, a mystery never to solve. Bag placed down upon the ground, in a pocket I reach around, until a bag of Red Sand for this project I find. In what I do now, would you say I deface although it will erase, maybe a disgrace, or a plaintive cry to the human race. Descent by Saoirse-Seersha Bell Light recedes without a trace Shadows cling to mountain face Mist and moss and swirl of cape Electric tingles at my nape Sing the songs that Nature knows Clouds run away from winds that blow In darkest hour Maat’s Eye sees Goddess visions through the trees Descent on moonbeams to leafy palace In awe I greet her and lift my chalice & # « « My hand placed down upon cold, hard, rough bricks, thumb covering the nail, hand outstretched, a new scene to create as Red Sand from a bag I shake and pour.
