With the success o f the City H a ll patio food cart program, Mayor Charlie Hales has expanded
the idea to the vacant, city-owned lot a t M L K Jr. Boulevard an d Alberta Street. The lo t in North
Portland had been considered a prim e location fo r a Trader Joe ’s grocery storerbut the plan was*
pooh-poohed by residents o fth e a r e a co n ce m e d th e grocery store ch ain was another example o f
blown pod sim ilar to City H a ll this.summer, has set up shop. H ales is working to lure Trader
Joe’s back to the site, blit in the meantime, he said, the carts will keep the homeless people away.
