W hat a great way for an em ail to start. hgfedcbaZYXWVUTSRQPO B utte Falls C harter S chool w as n o tified on M ay 18 th , 2016 th a t th e y had been aw arded th e C ollege and C areer R eadiness G rant w hich w ill a llo w th e im p le m e n ta tio n o f th e A V ID program a t th e secondary building th is com ing school year. T he g ra n t w as aw arded to school d istricts th a t have th e need to service students w h o are underrepresented (e.g., students o f color, rural students, students experiencing poverty) in higher education and fo r students w h o are tryin g to fu lfill th e ir postsecondary career pathw ays and pursuing gainful e m p loym e n t. C ollege and C areer R eadiness program s like A V ID w e re id e n tifie d as having a high level o f success fo r stu d e nts in grades 9-12. T hese program s provide seam less w ra p -a ro u n d services to ensure th a t stu d e n ts' academ ic success, college-going know ledge and skills, and career advancem ent are supported in high school and co n tin u e as stu d e n ts' tra n sitio n in to postsecondary learning experiences o r career pathw ays. T hese program s are stru ctu red specifically to help stu d e nts successfully navigate th e com plexities o f postsecondary o p tio n s, e n ro llm e n t re q u ire m e n ts, and processes. T he A V ID elective course has co m p o ne n ts th a t are used in 6 th th ro u g h 12 th grades. S tudents are ta u g ht study skills, note-taking, tim e m anagem ent, w ritin g skills, and research skills d u ring th e elective course. T he class also includes tu to rin g sessions th a t are academ ically rigorous. T here is also across th e board cu rricu lu m in th is program fo r all classes so stu d e nts n o t o n ly receive these skills in th e elective class b u t also w ith in o th e r courses. S ta ff m em bers a t th e secondary b u ild in g are excited to in trod u ce th is program in th e fa ll. T here are areas o f th e A V ID program w hich w ill help re in fo rce o th e r co m p o n e n ts already in place fo r grades 9 th rou g h 12. A dding th e A V ID program in to th e daily course o f th e stu d e n ts w ill b e tter prepare th e stu d e nts fo r th e ir fu tu re s w h e th e r it is co n tinu in g e d u ca tio n o r a vo ca tio n a l career. S tudents are already ta lkin g a b o u t th e upcom ing ye a r and h o w th e y are lo o kin g fo rw a rd to th is new and exciting a d dition to B utte Falls C h a rter S chool.
