</ < 7 ^ fit w, ............................ ..... ■^O4/TH£RM MS L S outhern O regon O nline School (S O O S) is a W eb-based instructional program providing online high school courses hosted and sponsored by the S outhern O regon E ducational se r- vice D istrict (SO ESD ). It is a m odel that addresses the learning needs o f students in a large rural Educational S ervice D istrict (ESD) area th a t encom passes three counties (Jack- > \ > y son, Jefferson, and Klam ath, approxim ately 10,000 square m iles) in southern O regon. | f B utte Falls H igh School has joined w ith m any schools in the valley to o ffe r th is program to its students. C arla LeFever, Social S tudies teacher at BFH S, spent a year developing an online A m erican G overnm ent class. This is her second year teaching online. This is also the second year that B utte Falls H igh School has been participating in this innovative and valuable program , w hich has helped to m eet the needs of several of our students, including C aleb M oore, Josh W etzel, S tephanie H ew itt, K athi S t. G eorge, Kari S t. G eorge, R ichard Jackson, R andi P itts, A shley E lm er, Dan S tark and R ef ina Azw an. Initially, the intended audience fo r the SOOS program was students in grades 9-12 w ho h a( j |oS t academ ic credit tow ard graduation for one reason or another and w ho needed a p HGFEDCBA I are accepted. P roceeds w ill help tn e C lass o f 2005! credit-recovery class. H ow ever, the audience fo r SOOS has grow n to encom pass all high school students in the region. By providing a basic course m enu fo r W eb-based learning M em o ries c a p tu re d fo r from certified teachers, SO OS im plem ented research-based, online courses. For the 2002- O n ly $ 1 5 03 school year, SO O S is offering a fu ll m enu of class opportunities to students across the region and beyond. S tudents in grades 9-12 attending high schools in d istricts served by 2 0 0 1 ,2 0 0 0 , 1 9 9 9, 1 9 9 8 a nd the SO ESD are all eligible to enroll in SO O S classes. S tudents outside the SO ESD region o th ers a re s till availab le! should call to inquire about the availability of classes. Relive the moments!
