The team has only been to one tournam ent thus far, how ever they had another at N orth M edford H igh School on N o vem ber 23. The team 's coach M arcia W arren is proud of the w ork the students have accom - plished this year. There are several different categories, such as pros, hum orous, duo, speech, dram atic, debate, poetry, radio, ads (after din- ner speech), congress, and serious. The results fo r the first tournam ent are as follows: 1st place N ovice Prose, BJ Parlet; 3rd place N ovice Prose, A rron Shaw; 1st place O pen Hum orous, M elody C arlisle; 2nd place O pen Duo, B J Parker and David Hoel; 2nd place O pen Prose, Bonnie Biando; Finalist N ovice Radio, Ronnie Lyon; and 3rd place O pen D ram atic, C aleb M ................................... oore. These are som e of the thoughts th a t are going through a teenager's m ind w hen sitting through one w hole, drooling hour of the new ly form ed ■ "A fte r School H om ew ork C lub", a consequence of the BFH S A.S.P.I.R.E. program . This club 1 m eets from 4:00pm to 5:00pm Tuesday through Thursday. M ost kids call it detention. D , etention, the m ost dreaded w ord of a high - school student. W ell, I w ouldn't really call it detention but a "hom ework opportunity," as the teachers put it. If it was really a club, don't y° u ink that the students w ould actually w ant to go to it? A club is supposed to be fun, ar,d if you ask m e, this isn't really very fun. I really w anted to know w hat people thought ' about The A fte r School H om ework C lub, so I set out and asked a variety of students, som e w ho are m em bers and som e w ho are not, w hat they thought about The A fte r School H om e w ork C lub? R ichard Jackson said, "I don't go to it because I have other things that I like to do a fte r school, and it gets in the w ay of m y online gam es." M elody C arlisle replied, "I think that it gives students a good opportunity to im prove their grades, and w e can have all of our play- ers on the team s again." D avid H oel said, "I think it is good to provide people w ith the opportunity to m ake up their w ork a fter school, especially if there are teachers available to League) include Tony Beals, Bonnie Biando, M elody Carlisle, Amanda H Hamilton, am ilton, David H oel, B ritani Johnston, Cody Kelly, V ictoria Lawrence, and Am anda N ewby. W ell, I got som e answ ers, but I ju st w asn't satisfied, so I set out fo r m ore. So I posed another question, "D o you think w e should have The A fte r School H om ew ork C lub?" Kenn Biando said, , "N o, I think it is a w aste of tim e, r and nobody really does th eir w ork in there anyw ay." K athi S t. George said, "N o, I'm sorry,' but I think it is a bad idea." H er There you have it. Look forward to some am azing results from these highly skilled and m otivated students. n o ra By Arron K. Shaw Fiesta^, Fiesta^Fiesta! E arlier this year M s. II t Torres' - . Spanish r- -r-r class had a Fiesta EspanoL The students w ere celebrating finishing chap ter 2 in their Spanish book, Juntos. So their final task fo r that unit in Spanish II was to have the fiesta. A ll of the Spanish II kids pre pared one dish. They invited all of the H igh School S ta ff to the fiesta. Everyone le ft chanting O le, O le! A ll in all The Spanish fiesta was great they all had a great tim e and so did ail of the staff. They all brought food. The best food dish was A rron Shaw's fam ily salsa recipe. It was really hot and good it had a good flavor to it besides having that hot, hot spicy flavor. ‘ ‘ > ................. .............................................................. help." sister Kari S t. George said, "N o , I think it is stupid." W hen R onnie D avis w as asked the sam e question he replied, "N o, I think it is stupid, because the cop goes in there to do it, and if w e need help he m ight not know how to do the w ork in order to help us." I asked m ore people but I still w asn't satisfied, so I asked fo r th e ir opinion on The A fte r School H om e w ork club. Trae Stephenson said, " I think th a t it is em barrassing fo r the students name to be put on a list w here every one can see it. M y personal opinion is th a t their focus teacher should t e || them th a t they are in the club, so it w ill save the em barrassm ent." W hen Jam es Grieve waS as ked this question he said, "I don't agree w ith it. I think it should be a choice to go or not. W ell folks, there you have it. I say that m ajority rules and as you can tell, the m ajority of the students think th at w e shouldn't have the A fte r School H om ew ork Club. H ow ever, since this is program is still new and students haven't been able to see the positive e ffe ct it can have on their grades, it is probably to early to tell. If their grades im prove, so m ay their opinions. rQQD iERVICl GE&EE# as seen through tho eyes o f R ichard Jackson by Amanda Hamilton A nother year of blazing fun has com e and gone, and it was another success! N early fifty students, friends, and fam ily enjoyed our tra- ditional bonfire. The bonfire burned from 7:00 to 11:00. There was m usic and m any refresh- m ents, and for the m ost part everyone was be- having them selves. M any students contributed to set up the bonfire, including Jed Rowden, Kenn Biando Kelly H arrington, C hris Copeland, Shannon Sizem ore, D erek Burns, Asia M illion, and m any others. Thank you for all your help! M y norm al every day activities in Foods class are fairly consistent. I go over to the E lem entary school during nutrition break to eat the le ft over food from break- fast. Joined by m y fellow classm ates D avid H oel, K eith S tark, Brian G asperson, D arren H am pton, Tony Beals, Bonnie Biando, Julie H ayes, Jason Stevenson and B.J. Par let, w e stand around fo r about five m inutes eating and drinking all sorts of good stu ff. Then, its tim e to w ork. W e put on our aprons and sanitize are hands at the sink. Som eone takes out the trash, others are busy preparing the salad bar fo r lunch, w hile oth ers com plete the preparation o f the hot lunch. Then w e clean up our m esses and set up the tables. N ow it is alm ost tim e to go. M rs. Brow n's little helpers from the elem en tary school com e to help her serve the food. I call them little people.
