Bu+te Falls School District jB Updates by Mr. Pine No Such Thing As “Bored” Policy in Butte Falls I'd like to once again thank the members of the Butte Falls community for coming to the Board meeting and sharing your thoughts, your concerns, and your ideas. I will continue to try to hear what you are saying and make the best choices I can given the information at hand. We will certainly become a more united and focused district as we continue to be open and caring in our efforts to do the right thing for the students of Butte Falls. Above all, I am attempting to create an atmosphere of com munity in our schools. I want our schools to be a place where everyone feels comfortable, feels challenged, and feels valued as they at tempt to sculpt the future from the knowledge and experiences we can provide. We as a com munity will be best served by efforts that have at their core well considered curricular and co- curricular programs that provide students not only solid foundations of knowledge and enjoy able experiences for today, but a variety of educational and practical experiences that in the years to come will serve them as they face the greater challenges of the world beyond the' school. Please take the time to come in to the schools. I believe we have a great staff, we have fun loving and energetic students that are doing wonderful things, and we have community mem bers that are spending quality time with stu dents. As more members of the community find the time to drop in, the students will have in creased opportunities to show off, to explain what they are doing, to realize that school is not just what happens inside the walls. The community at large impacts the school, and ul timately the students, in every way; from at tendance at the activities and the phone calls and conversations we each have, to simply ask ing the students how their day went and truly listening to the answer. Butte Falls is a beauti ful town and has such a broad base of things to offer; I sincerely hope that we can each take the time to appreciate what we have and do what we can to promote an atmosphere and attitude of community spirit. I look forward to continued conversations as we discover the potential of our mutual interest. Playing In The Oirt If you haven't noticed, there have been a few adults at the elementary school over the^P°st weeks playing in the dirt, some with rather large toys no less! Not to worry however, they are;there doing the business of taking care of the students of Butte Falls by helping to complete the play- around project. Through their tireless contributions, these volunteers continue to lend supp word and deed to the schools. I want to go on record and thank those who have most recently spent time at the school playing in the dirt, so thank you Mary, Mike and Sean Casey, Bob, Bobbie and Kenny Lyons, Bear Freeman and Ray and Mary Macy! A special thanks to the following original committee members who helped make all of this happen; Mr. Benninghof, Mary Casey, Julie Freeman, Sue Macy, Melonie Rodgers, Carrie Driskell, Melty Knighton and Jeff Gorman, £ / / / £ PAY -TO -PLAY FEE f ? $ $ lkjihgfedcbaZYXWVUTS Inasmuch as the football and volleyball season are drawing to a close, I'd like to remind you of my letter of September 20 and that we are looking to the members of those sports teams to provide the $25.00 pay-to-play fee. In the event that the fee is a hardship, please write a statement to that effect and we will arrange to cover the cost from another account. If you have already paid, thank you and please disregard this reminder, While we regret that we have to charge this fee, we consider it one of several necessary steps in attempting to support the variety of programs we hope to continue during Oregon’s difficult finan cial circumstance. Please remit the $25.00 fee to the school at your earliest possible convenience. Thank you for your continued support and understanding. A.S.RLR.E. Achieving Successful Performance in Rural Education (revised 10-20-02) The Aspire program was developed and established through a collaborative effort between the Butte Falls High School Student government and the staff and administration of the high school. The administration wishes to acknowledge Josh Wetzel, student body president, for including the stu dent body in helping to promote the process of government and the importance of its function in the school. It was revised October 20, 2002 following a meeting with the coaches. The new Eligibility Policy at Butte Falls High School is as follows: • The first ”D" on a Monday report results in one hour after school daily for that week and PROBATION 1 status. • The second “D" in any one or more classes on any subsequent Monday report during that six- week grading period results in the one hoijr after school for that week, PROBATION 2 status and assignment to Friday School for that week. • The third ”D", as above, results in one hour after school daily for the week, Friday School and INELIGIBILITY status. • A grade of “F" results in automatic INELIGIBILIT/, one hour after school daily and Friday School. • INELIGIBILITY status requires continued after school and Friday School until all grades are brought up to "C" or better. • This policy is applied to ALL students, regardless of their participation in co-curricular activities. • Students will begin with a clean slate at the beginning of each six-week grading period with one exception; carrying INELIGIBILITY status into a new grading period will result in being placed on PROBATION 2 status, one hour after school daily for the week and Friday School. Probation 1 4 2 status: Student will attend the activity but not participate, (subject to stipulations of activity and advisor) Students who elect not to participate in this manner will be excused from the club/team/activity for the duration of the season/activity. Academic Club/Activity: Athletic Activity: Probation!; Student will be assigned one hour daily after school in order to improve the grades.
