Parlet The New-Sfelff^Calls C alls lkjihgfedcbaZYX tor New Students By Brittany Hayes and Elysia Rodgers Butte Falls has gained quite a few new stu dents, two of which came from foreign countries. We are lucky to have them with us. Gregor Siemes is a 16 year old senior who came here from Disseldolf, Germany. There are about 10,000 people in Disseldolf and there isn't much to do there. He has two sisters, Katharina and Anna. Greg is living here with Molly, Buff, Vicky, Willie, Andrew, and Sarah Lawrence. So far he really likes it in Butte Falls, and he is happy to say that all the people have been really nice. While Greg is here he hopes to improve his English and learn more about our country. He enjoys rowing and soccer. The other foreign exchange student is Conny Haberler, who came here from Haus Kuchen, Aus tria, a small town with a population of about 660 people. She is living with Nancy and Leroy Th ompson. Conny has a younger sister named Isabelle, who is 11 years old. Her parents are Verna and Rudell Haberler. Conny enjoys dancing, riding motorcycles, listening to music, and making friends, just like any other teenager. She is en joying playing sports in Butte Falls. She is cur rently on the incredible Lady Logger Volleyball team and she plans to join the Ladies on the bas ketball court in the winter. Even though she lives in a small town in Austria, Conny went to school with about 4,000 students, where it is never bor ing and something exciting happens ali the time. Last year will be an experience I will never forget. I had a lot of fun and sometimes I did get a little peeved, but my freshman year would be something I could never replace. Since it was my Freshman year, the year where I was just getting to fit in, that way I would know what kind of people I would hang out with; you know, where my social standards were. The beginning of the year was nothing like I thought it would, be having the entire school just for freshman was perfect; no one was there to judge us. As I was saying, the year started with me meeting the teachers, like I always do, meeting the people that would shape my valuable mind in to what will be a well manufactured thinking machine. I think the one person, the one teacher, that affected me the most is Mr. Bone. I think that because Mr. Bone is sort of similar to me, well how I am this year anyway, because like me, he doesn't like to play around. When he could be using his time wisely and not just shooting the breeze, as he phrases it. I think that out of all of the things that happened on the first day, the thing that really affected me was when I met what would become my really good friend, Tim Taylor. I knew that day we were going to become more then just acquaintance; since our first assignment together, to the nights we just helped each other on our homework. I think the funniest thing about the f irst day of school for me was, when Jessica Dunlap could still yell louder then all of us combined while we were in the gym. And, of course, Conny misses her friends and My freshman year, there were so many great memories like hanging out with my friends at lunch, family, but she loves being here and intends on when we talked even though it was over the simplest things. With all my good memories, at the staying for the rest of the school year. While beginning of school year a lot those memories were almost ruined, on the early morning on Septem Conny is here she would like to do her best in all ber 11, when the horror started for our great nation. At least the horror subsided after time went on through the year. The good thing for me, or when things were looking up anyway, was when I got her classes, on the volleyball team, and make a my first award for having over 3.25 grade point average, or when I learned how to do a lab which bunch of life long friends. wasn't that exciting but still was cool learning to make observations. Hopefully as the school year continues we will I think the one thing that impacted me the most was when I figured out what happened when you come to learn more about these students. We fall behind on your studies. Which I had first class course in Mr. Bones Physical Science class, when know that the Butte Falls community will help us I was unable to do a few assignment, I found out how hard it is to bring your grade back up when you make them feel welcomed. can only bring it up one percent at a time. I also found out you have to work twice as hard to bring up that one percent. FORCED OUT By Richard Jackson Another cool thing that happened last year was when my class had it's first class party I thought that was pretty cool since I forgot altogether that we were going to have the party. I remember it like it was yesterday the way Mrs. Gorman would open up the student store so we could buy snacks When I go out in the world on my own, before we would start watching our movie that we picked out, it was "Remember the Titans". Or I My parents will be happy, they'll be all alone. remember last year when we had that scare that the school was on fire I didn't know what to think, When they boot me out this is wht they'll say, if there really was a fire or not. They really couldn't find any evidence of the fire but they did give “Good Luck and Have a Nice Day" everyone a pretty good scare. I'll reply having this to say, So many things happened with the normal day-to-day stuff like when in English we were working on “ But where will I go? Where will I stay?" our Shakespeare folders. I remember when at the end of the year when Gary, Chris, and I worked They will reply with this to say, on putting enough paper clips together to reach over the entire football field. We finally did it with “ It's not our problem, so just Shu, Shu Away!" over 30,000 paper clips. I also remember my rat experiment where Gary and I were putting rats So there I was, wild and free, through this 4 foot by 4 foot maze that Mr. Bone had. No money, No car, and no where to be... I think out of all those great memories of last year, the one that truly affected me, for the rest * - of my life, was when I discovered that one moment you could be perfectly fine arid the next-minute Then it hit me, and now I know what I must do. you can be sitting in a ditch.
