The fire engine in Butte Falls was a hand cart parked in a small building in the park across from where the city hall is n o w . : Things to Remember abort 50 DS=by D a rw in M @ © re Korean War Ending. The U.S. still drafting people into the army. Occupations: Forest Service, Medford Corporation, Gyppo Logging, Ranchers and others. Medford Corporation had several small green houses about two miles above Butte Falls toward Mt. P itt plus at camp 3 and camp 4 and some in Butte Falls was the living quarters for the loggers. The small green houses were called “ Little Tokyo ” . Bill Thomas was the woods boss in the early 50's. When he passed away Ed Maloy became the woods boss. Medco had several steam locomotives. The Shays were the power engines which pulled the logs from the mountains to where the rod engines picked up the loads and hauled the logs to Medford. Later Medco had one or two diesel locomotives. . . ..... The Stanley Swamp became Willow Lake in 1952. Early 50's Duck Boyd held movies in the park. Sunday evenings in the summer months. [] § S c h o o l kids got a full week out of school for I 3 hunting season. 3 2 -2 School initiations lasted one week. s ® 73 -e: ® U Areas around Willow Lake and on Cat Hill were brush fields. Saturday nite dances were common. a. c@ © ce Our favorite pastime was pulling and riding a toboggan int he winer time, either at Camp 2 (old 3 C Camp) or in the streets of Butte Falls. We could climb through the wood box to get into the camp 2 building and build a fire in the stove. Snow usually was about a foot to two feet deep. In about 1954 or 55 real bright socks and rolled up levis was worn.
