MAYOR’S CORNER per $1000 of assessed value. At this time, Butte Falls has not yet filled the Public Works Superintendent position with a "State certified" applicant. We did interview an excellent applicant, and made an offer of employment. However, the candidate was also being considered for a public works position in Cave Junction. The candidate also wants to bring his family to visit our area before accepting the position. The good news is that the Public Works Superintendent of Shady Cove may be willing to work with Butte Falls to train a local person. I will be able to give you better info next month when the details are worked out. We did not have a quorum for the regular Council meeting in June. We scheduled a Council meeting to follow the Public Hearing for the 98-99 Budget on Thursday, June 18. A resolution was approved to continue the water/sewer rates at the current level until a final ordinance has been drafted, posted and approved. Another resolution was approved to prepare a special tax levy to be voted on by residents in September. The Budget Committee found no way to balance the 98-99 budget to meet all the needs for 98-99. A special tax levy in the amount of $ 17,000 will be requested. This dollar amount will allow us to continue funding our police department. We are in the process of preparing the necessary documents to have this on the ballot. The levy will be included in the budget for 98-99 and the voters will decide on the outcome. Copies of our budget are available at City Hall. We will be glad to make arrangements to discuss the budget in detail. If this levy is approved, it is estimated that it will cost property owners $2.00 •• • •— KJIHGFEDCBA — — — ~ •• • • " - - $50,000 you would pay an additional $100 in property taxes. The levy is being requested for five years maximum. The Town can not increase the regular tax levy for this amount because of the property tax limitations. We have a great place to live, please support us by voting for this measure in September. In the November election, there will be three Council positions, the Mayor position, Treasurer and City Recorder up for election. Any resident of Butte Falls, who is a registered voter, is eligible to run for one of these positions. Please call Lori at the City Hall for information. The Town of Butte Falls is very fortunate to have so many people willing to volunteer their time to make this community a better place to live. We not only have volunteers who spend countless hours serving on the Council, Planning Commission, W ater Commission, Budget Committee, Fire Department and now Reserve Police. W e have those volunteers who work with our children at the youth center, the Children s Garden, our museums, our sendee clubs and our active club. We will soon be celebrating the 4th of July with our parade and family activities. Thanks to all who have helped to make this event possible again another year! In September we will have "Cycle Oregon" return to Butte Falls. It is not too late to sign up to help. Happy summer! May the sunshine continue and your gardens grow!
