The rummage sale w ill be held at the South Hubbard city limits on 99E. Various staff members of the Valley Migrant League have given help to the new organization VIVA, in Washington County. VML help ed VIVA get started. We believe that VIVA w ill grow up, to take its place in society. Meanwhile, if VIVA gets satisfac tion out of belittling the Valley Mi grant League, the Migrant Minis try, CAP, and other organizations, we hope that all these agencies w ill maintain their dignity and pay no attention to the childish jibes. OUR JOB IS TO FIGHT POVERTY R I A L We know that VML shares these purposes w ith several other organ izations. OUR ENERGIES ARE NOT FOR QUARRELING W ITH MALICE TOWARDS NO NE Under no conditions do we wish to discourage VIVA or any other organization from pursuing con structive goals. Under no condi tions do we wish to feel any jeal ousy toward any group which strives to combat poverty. We have no intention of entering a battle of insults with persons who are our brothers. In the new publication La Espuela we find many items of in terest. We recommend the article on page 2, "Designs," which lists the objectives of VIVA, as well worth reading.—D.W. Board member has fatal heart attack CLIFFORD OREY A VML Board member, Clifford Orey of Fir Grove Farm, died July 21 of a heart attack at the age of 54. As a farmer, he was a very ac tive man in his work. He was also very active in the community. Be sides being a board member of the Valley Migrant League, he was also a member of the Salem area Cham ber of Commerce, the Keizer Grange, the Williamette TB and Health Association, the Capitol Toastmaster Club, and was Presi dent of the Marion County Farm Bureau. A party held for VISTA trainees By Ella Rigney, VISTA An outdoor party was given by Mr. and Mrs. Miles Drum in honor of the VISTA trainees and VISTAs from the Sandy area, last week. The trainees now live in cabins on the Drum Farm. The VISTAs who attended were Mrs. Ella Rigney, Elaine Furamo- to, Harold Macy, Richard Meyer and Richard Pollack. The trainees are Luke Moore, Shirley Meenan, Sue Houghtling and Buzz Willets, supervisor. We must repeat that our first job is to work with farm workers and their families; to show them ways to rise out of poverty; to help them, if they wish help, to lift themselves out of the migrant stream; to lead them to find new security and new self-reliance. SheBt was on her way home after visit«!' ing her sister, Mrs. Phillip Cooklrol when she disappeared. She left atl? 8:30 p.m., driving a pick-up truck, and was expected home by 9:00,p The truck was found, but the girlp was missing. Janell is 5'4" and weighs 150 lbs.
