Independence Day greeting from the V.M.L. Director

The Fourth of July is celebrated
in this Country as Independence
Day. I think it might be equally ap­
propriate to think of it as Depen­
dence Day. The men who wrote
and signed the "Declaration of In­
dependence" which was to cut
them free from English domina­
tion, were strongly aware of thè
Dependence on each other. Their
United Spirit of this need, is made
clear in the last sentence of the im­
portant document that started our
Country on its Great Future.
"And for the support of this Dec­
laration, w ith a firm reliance on the
protection of Divine Providence,
we mutually pledge to each other
our Lives, our Fortunes, and our
sacred Honor." The fifty-six brave
men who signed the Declaration
and the Colonists they represented
were brave men who had families
and homes and business responsi-
bilties.
It took great courage for
them to commit themselves totally
to the cause they believed in. • „

Se celebra el Cuatro de Julio en
este país como el Día de Indepen­
dencia. También se puede consid­
erar el Día de Dependencia.
Los
hombres que escribieron y fir­
maron "la Declaración de Indepen­
dencia" (el documento que les dió
la libertad de Inglaterra) se dieron
cuenta de la Dependencia que
compartieron. De esta dependencia
desarrolló un Espíritu Unido y se
puede apreciarlo en la última frase
del documento importante.
"Y para el apoyo de esta Declar­
ación con una firma confianza en la
protección de la Divina Providen­
cia, mutualmente
prometemos,
