Woodbum pólice open youth center
El primero de mayo el departamento de Policía de Woodbum abrirá
un Centro de Recreación para Jóvenes. Quedará en Front Street al lado de
Western Auto Store. La Reserva del Policía ha planeado una carrera de ocho
linias para "slot ears." Otros actividades incluirá ping-pong, shuffle board,
y una venta de refrescos.
El Centro estará abierto durante la semana entre las 6:30 p.m. y 9:30
p.m. Estará abierta todo el día sabado y domingo.
On M ay 1st the W oodburn Police
Department w ill open a Youth Rec­
reation Center. It is located on Front
street next to the Western Auto
Store. The Police Reserve has plan­
ned an 8 lane race track fo r slot
cars. O ther activities w ill include
ping pong, shuffle board, and a re­
freshment stand.
The Center w ill be open week
days from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
It w ill be open all day Saturday and
Sunday.
The Jay Cees o f W oodburn have
cooperated in the planning o f adult
supervision fo r the center.

Prinslow o f the W oodburn Police
Department said that the Center
w o uld not be open unless there
was an adult attending.
"W e intend to cooperate fu lly
w ith the parents o f the young
people w ho w ill use the recreation
center. O nly if the parents wish
their children to attend, w ill they
be able to participate."
For a year the W oodburn police
have been active in projects for
iyoung people. They have spon­
sored bow ling teams, pewee base­
ball, and safety programs.
Prinslow hopes that the Spanish
American young people w ill feel
welcome and attend the activities
at the new center.
Juan Ruiz o f VML has cooper­
ated w ith us in encouraging these
young people to join us in our pro­
ject. We are confident that it w ill
be a success."

Salem helps Valley Migrant League form baseball teat
"Cómo se siente Ud. cuando su
sueño se convierte realizado. ¡Mar­
avilloso!" Dice Sam Hernández,
asistente del supervisor del Centro
de O portunidad de Salem.
Por
varios años tuvo la esperanza de
organizar un equipo de baseball,
integrado por gente de color,
Anglo,
y
Mexicanos.
Ahora
tenemos dicho equipo de jóvenes
de estas tres razas de 14 años de
edad en VAAL.
Hemos recibidio también mag­
nífica
cooperación
del Salem
Bureau de Rarks y Recreación
quienes nos asignaron un campo

come true? W onderful!" says Sam
Hernandez, assistant supervisor of
the Salem O pportunity Center. "For
many years I hoped to coach an in­
ter-racial baseball team ." Now VML

mentary School en Keizer. "Trataré

por semana. Tengo le esperanza de

dez el baseball fue algo m uy bueno
cuando el estaba más ¡oven.
"Es
tiem po bien empleado, me ayudo a
sentirme bien en la comunidad,

y es de la misma
form a que quiero que estos jóvenes
se sientan."

nights a week. We welcome young
