M otor Vehicle Accident Fund DELORES RIOS OF NYSSA ENLISTS IN JOB CORPS THIS LAW M A Y HELP YOU Our daughter Delores Rios e| listed in the Job Corps some tir ago and is now waiting for hl assignment from Washington, D.( By A l Klinge The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund is administered by the State Com pensation Department. The Fund js maintained by the payment of $1 biannually by each applicant for a driver's license or renewal. There are only two such pro grams in the United States. The first to establish such a Fund was the State of Ohio. The State of Ore gon passed their law in 1941 and it is similar to the law in effect in Ohio. The reason,this law was passed was that many people who were injured on the highways in pur State of Oregon couldn't afford to pay their medical expenses. This was not only a hardship on the in jured person who was trying to pay his debt but also on the hos pital and others who had rendered their services and were entitled to get paid. As a result this Motor Vehicle Accident Fund Law was passed. Now when a hospital, for ex ample, has sent a statement of ex penses to patient it has treated as a result of an injury on our high ways and the injured doesn't have money to pay for this expense, the bill can be taken care of by this Fund. The hospital or one who has given the service w ill send a claim form to the injured and after this is completed, it is sent to the State Compensation Department. An in vestigation w ill take place and if it is found that the injured hasn't any money to pay, his bill w ill then be paid out of the Motor Vehicle Acci- We also have a son in the ArmJ His name is Panifilo Rios. If it is found at a later date that the injured person is able to pay, the person then may have to pay back the money to the Accident Fund. If you are injwted oh the high way of the State of Oregon and have no money to pay for your medical expenses you may find that this law may be of much help to both you and the one giving the medical aid.
