Charges can be amended or dismissed.) *** Monday, Oct. 23 *The driver of a white Nissan Pathfinder could have used some help finding his path in the 200 block of Kerby Street at 8:40 a.m. First, he backed a U-Haul trailer into a ditch. Once he maneuvered out of the ditch, he hit a phone company utility box, knocking it into a yard. The motorist with Washington plates was not even aware that he had struck the box until a deputy contacted him. *An elderly woman placed her tax payments in her mailbox in the 4800 block of Lakeshore Drive at 9:11 a.m. A gal wearing a hoody drove up in a small red car, took the mail, and drove off. *A fellow was taken to the hospital after being assaulted at 4 a.m. Oct. 22 in the 700 block of Caves Hwy. He was working at a medical marijuana grow when a guy punched him several times in the face. The fellow wanted law enforcement to assist with retrieving his vehicle, belongings, and marijuana plants. He did recover his vehicle, but Josephine County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) does not help repo the pot. *Tanks were vandalized in the 100 block of S. Caves Avenue, and two or three hundred gallons of stove oil leaked into storm drains. A report was filed for first-degree criminal mischief, and damages may total more than $1,000. *Between Oct. 21-23, a lock was cut, and a shed was broken into at a church at 209 S. Junction Avenue. Stolen items include a canvas canopy cover, four X4 Genesis bows and a box of arrows, and four Daisy Grizzly BB guns. (You’re going to shoot your eye out, kid.) The scrooges also made off with four red plastic containers filled with Christmas decorations, and a large box of paper plates and utensils. *Cody Lee Weaver, 26, had a federal warrant from Medford Police Department for failure to appear on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was cited to appear in Jackson County Courts Nov. 21 in lieu of being detained. *A 26-foot U-Haul trailer was blocking both lanes of travel when it became entrenched in a ditch in the 5400 block of Takilma Road at 1:27 p.m. (Hmmm, lots of U-Haul trailers around these days.) *Law enforcement caught up with a fugitive in the 3200 block of Waldo Road at 2:05 p.m. Daisy Martin, AKA Delacey Dawn, AKA Delacey Wells, AKA Delacey Wales, AKA Delacy Lauren John, 35, was detained in Josephine County Jail on an Oregon State Parole Board Felony warrant. The multi-faceted gal was charged with parole violation, fraud, and providing false information to a peace officer. *A chap was walking his dog without a leash near 143 Redwood Hwy. at 2:35 p.m. Twice, the dingo/pit-mix puppy was nearly hit by cars, because he couldn’t catch her. Bystanders did not approve of the way he was treating the pup, and took the canine away from him. The dog was eventually returned to the owner, but he was advised that video footage would be reviewed to determine his level of disciplining the dog. The puppy did not appear to have any injuries or signs of pain, and seemed to be happy when reunited with its owner. *Between 5:15 p.m. Oct. 20 and 8:15 a.m. Oct. 23, vandalism occurred at 103 S. Kerby Avenue. There were burn marks on the building from a fire made in a can, graffiti on the walls and debris left all around the area. Tuesday, Oct. 24 *At 11:35 a.m. a happy camper was staked out in a tent near a soccer field, just 100 feet from a school at 520 W. River Street. A deputy warned an individual about smoking marijuana in public and on school grounds. (Because everybody knows that smoking ain’t allowed in school.) *An Illinois Valley High School football coach returned from a game and found that his white 2000 Chevy pickup truck had been broken into at 625 E. River Street, between 4 p.m. Oct. 20 and 3 a.m. Oct. 21. The driver’s side window was broken, and several items were taken, including prescription glasses, Wiley X sunglasses, an igloo ice chest, and last but not least, his coffee cup. Wednesday, Oct. 25 *A young gal has been hanging out behind the U.S. Post Office near dumpsters at 18398 Redwood Hwy. She was not considered a danger to herself or others, and appeared to be warm as she drank hot cocoa. She is known to be a transient in town working as a trimmer, per prior contacts. *On Oct. 24 between 1:30- 2:30 p.m., there was a hit-and-run accident in the 18300 block of Redwood Hwy. He started to exchange information, then left the scene. Law enforcement officers tracked down the address of the registered owner, because it was most likely his son that was driving. *JCSO apprehended a fugitive with a felony warrant from Ashland Police Department, and a misdemeanor warrant from Coos County. Bradley Dean Loyd, 24, was arrested in the 200 block of Dogwood Lane at 1:32 p.m. Loyd’s list of charges include failure to appear for first-degree theft, possession of heroin and cocaine, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer, second-degree theft, and driving under the influence of intoxicants. Loyd was detained in Josephine County Jail. *A damsel in distress claimed that she was threatened with a gun and a fist in the 5000 block of Thompson Creek Road. Her not-so-mellow medical marijuana grower and former tenant was upset because someone did not return his fishing pole. *No, the green garbage bag full of bones found in a ditch alongside Westside Road was not a Halloween decoration. Someone discarded a deer carcass. *An alert deputy spotted a fugitive in the 600 block of Frederick Court at 3:37 p.m. Jesse Thomas Hopwood, 34, had a felony warrant from Josephine County for failure to appear for fleeing or attempting to elude, possession of meth, and reckless driving. He was detained in Josephine County Jail. Thursday, Oct. 26 *A “tweaking” transient was throwing rocks near a haunted house in Jubilee Park at 9:50 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27 *There was a mother/ daughter feud in the 100 block of N. Caves Avenue at 11:04 a.m. Allegations ranged from bed bugs to an offer to exchange child custody for a pound of marijuana. Saturday, Oct. 28 *Four guys were fighting near W. River Street and Hwy. 199 at 12:01 p.m. Three of them were cited for minor in possession. *A landlord was worried about individuals growing marijuana on his property in the 18000 block of Redwood Hwy. They lost their medical license to grow, but continue to manage their crops. When the landlord told his tenant that he did not want him to grow illegally, he quit paying his rent. An attorney is working on the eviction, and notes were sent to Rogue Area Drug Enforcement (RADE) for review. *Light gray smoke and lots of yelling and cursing stemmed from a marijuana grow site in the 200 block of Cowboy Way at 9:57 a.m. *A dude on a skateboard threatened an individual with his baton near 406 S. Redwood Hwy. at 5:28 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29 *The folks in the 9300 block of Takilma Road were experiencing difficulties again with their neighbor’s loud music and barking dog. They tried asking the guy to turn down the volume. That didn’t work, so the missus of the house has other plans in store for him. (Eye of newt, perhaps?)
