Page A-6 Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, Ore. Wednesday, July 19, 2017 Americans’ issue with entering and exiting: by Dr. Glenn Mollette We will never figure out health care, Medicaid and most of our country’s issues until we learn how to enter and exit buildings. For years now I have witnessed average America’s is- sue with doors. Almost every day I will encounter someone who doesn’t understand how to open a door. For example if I am entering a building that has a double door, one to enter and one to exit, someone inevitably will always exit the door I am entering while I am trying to enter the door. Instead of opening their door which would be the door on their right or my left, they stand staring at me as if I am supposed to stop and not enter through my door but hold my door open so they can exit from my door. I believe in being courteous but I can’t figure out why so many people want to be discourteous to me. I have a door to enter and they have a door to exit. I am opening my door and they simply can open their door to exit. Instead, time and again they stand as if they are incapable or just too lazy to open their own door and expect me to hold my door pen for them to exit instead of me entering through my door. I see this on the flip side. Often when exiting a build- ing someone who should be entering from the door on the left will see me opening my door on the right and instead of entering through their door will stand as if they are incapa- ble of opening their door and will just barge on through the the door I have opened to exit. This is all terribly uncouth and people need to learn to open their own door. Usually if someone is entering a building and they are right behind me I open the door and motion for them to go ahead in front of me. I feel that is the polite thing to do. If I am exiting a building I am happy to step aside and let someone who is right behind me go first or even the door for him or her. If someone opens the door for me I am grateful and thank him or her for the courtesy. I just can’t understand people who barge through a door that someone else may have opened to enter or exit. They act as if it is their American right to be rude and crude to just come on through the door someone else has opened and that the person opening the door should just stand and hold it open for them. Maybe you haven’t experienced this. I hope you aren’t one of these door offenders because it’s really inconsiderate of you if you are. Some Americans have been taught that this is accept- able and is the American way to get ahead. Simply barge, push ahead, break line and do whatever is necessary. Man- ners, courtesy and politeness are old fashion. Often I find myself standing watching someone as they dart through the door I am entering or exiting because they simply did not want to open the other door. Usually I stand there and think, “Another idiot doesn’t know how to open a door,” as they dart through mine without even a thank you but an obvious expectation that someone is simply expected to hold the door open for them. This kind of mindset may get you in the door or through the door but it’s as far as it will get you. It won’t get you invited to dinner and I wouldn’t want to hire anybody like this who conducts them selves this way. Don’t barge through the door when other people are coming through the door. Use your own door to enter or exit. This is why these doors are installed. One of the first steps to solving many of America’s problems is learning how to enter and exit. After this it will all be downhill. Glenn Mollette is a syndicated columnist and author of 12 books. He is read in all 50 states. Church News Seventh-day Adventist Church Jesus is Coming Soon! How does scripture portray our soon coming King? “I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud as the Son of man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle.” Rev. 14: 14 The sickle represents the harvest of people who have been faithful to Him. Will Jesus come quietly when He returns? “For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trump of God.” 1 Thess. 4: 16 “Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent.” Psalm 50:3 Who will see Jesus when He returns? “Behold He comes with clouds; and every eye shall see Him.” Rev. 1:7 Who will come with Jesus? “When the Son of man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit on the throne of His glory.” Matt. 25:3 1 What happens to God’s faithful people who have died? “The dead in Christ shall rise first.” I Thess 4:16 At this point what will happen to His living faithful people? “Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord!” 1 Thess. 4: 17 What solemn warning does Jesus give about His Coming? “For many shall come in My name saying, I am Christ and shall deceive many.” Matt. 245 What will prevent God’s people from being deceived? “To the law and to the testimony; if they speak not according to this word, it is because they is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:20 What will happen to the people who aren’t ready for Jesus return? “Then shall the wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with his mouth, and destroy with the brightness of his coming.” 2 Thess 2:8 Would it be safe to go see a false Christ? “Wherefore if they shall say to you, behold he is in the dessert; go not forth.” Matt. 24:26 What will the angels do at Jesus return? “His angels shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” Matt. 24:3 1 What a joy to see Jesus and to meet our guardian angel! Since we are living just before Jesus Coming, How should we relate to this solemn and glorious event? “Therefore be ye also ready; for in such an hour as you think not, the Son of man comes.” How will Jesus reward His faithful people? “Behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me to give everyone according as his work shall be.” Rev. 22; 12 His reward of eternal life. John 3: 16 What will those who are not ready say when Jesus returns? “And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and chief captains and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man.. Said to the mountains and rocks, fall on us, and hide us fro the face of him that sits on the throne ... for the great day of His wrath has come and who shall be able to stand?” Rev. 6:15-17 What will those who are prepared say when Jesus appears? “Lo this is our God, we have waited for him and He will save us.” Isaiah 25:9 What is the main purpose of Jesus com- ing? “I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:3 He loves us all so very much Dear Reader, won’t you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior today? Read John 3:16 Jesus says “If you love me keep my Commandments” John 14: 15 Community Bible Church Swept Away Ephesians 1:22-23 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. “In twenty years, Christianity will be no more. My single hand will destroy the edifice it took twelve apostles to rear.” ~ Voltaire I periodically read stories where the authors declare that the end of the Christian faith is in sight. This is nothing new – the demise of the Christian faith has been forecast so many times by so many people that it has become tiring to listen to it. The Islamic State has killed many followers of Jesus the Messiah. But it is not working out exactly as they had hoped, because as they eliminate the followers of Christ, many others are coming to Jesus every day to find forgive- ness of their sin. There are many who are leaving Islam to follow Christ. In the United States and many western culture na- tions, we are seeing a younger generation turn a dull ear toward the faith of the previous generation – which saddens me, but there is a lesson to be learned. No one can ride along on the faith of a past generation; each generation must find a relationship with the true and living God. Since the first days of Christianity, there have been unceasing efforts to stifle or crush a living faith in Jesus. The religious leaders of Israel tried to stifle it, the mighty Roman Empire has tried, groups mired in religious dogma have tried, Islam tried, and there were other nations and governments who struck out at those who followed Christ. There have been struggles within what I would call the religion of Christianity – which can certainly be different than true faith in Jesus. Will the true followers of Christ ever be swept from the face of the earth? No. It may have been best stated by a Jewish religious leader named Gamaliel. He said in Acts 5:38-39, “ 38 And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; 39 but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it--lest you even be found to fight against God.” See you Sunday.
