Charges can be amended or dismissed.) *** Sunday, March 5 *A deputy from Jose- phine County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) was summoned in a parking lot at 305 S. Red- wood Hwy. at 12:08 p.m. *The driver of a Subaru was cited into Cave Junction Municipal Court following traffic violations at 12:33 p.m. near S. Redwood Hwy. and Caves Hwy. He was warned for no front license plate and failure to carry registration, and cited for no valid operator’s license and failure to carry proof of insur- ance. *Folks were warned for having their dog off the leash in Jubilee Park at 12:58 p.m. *Law enforcement was at Kerby Mart at 1:20 p.m. *A gold-colored Honda from a previous call was found in the 4600 block of Waldo Road at 3:33 p.m. *At 3:37 p.m. there was a disturbance in the 25800 block of Redwood Hwy. A jerk in a blue Mazda pickup truck with a white camper shell was threaten- ing employees at CJ Coffee. A second caller described an altercation involving a man in a white vehicle and two guys in the Mazda. Guns were waved around, and based on statements and video record- ings, it appeared to be mutual combat. A report was filed for harassment, menacing, and unlawful pointing of a firearm. The rowdy customers were trespassed from CJ Cof- fee. (Decaf, perhaps?) *A silver-colored Toyota Corolla was towed from Oregon Caves National Monument at 4:09 p.m. after a non-injury traffic accident. Outside the Valley *Eighteen situations. Monday, March 6 *At 10:08 a.m. a vehicle was abandoned in the middle of the 900 block of Illinois River Road due to six inches of snow. Illinois Valley Fire District trucks drove on the shoulder of the road, but the Department of Public Works plow could not navigate past, so a hazard tow was dispatched. *Motorists in the 100 block of Deer Creek Road were cited for uninsured driving and driving while licenses were suspended (DWS-V). They also received warnings for careless driving and failure to carry proof of insurance. *A jalopy was left in the Kerby Mart parking lot at 10:51 a.m. because the opera- tor was cited for uninsured driving. Warnings were doled out for DWS-V, improper display, and failure to carry proof of registration. WHERE’S THE ALARM? Per statements from residents, she did not live at that location, and she had been warned repeatedly for trespassing. She broke a window to gain access earlier in the week. When she tried to force her way into the home, another woman punched her once and knocked her down to stop her. The gal had the gall to phone 911, but the assault was un- founded. American Medical Response provided medical attention due to the swelling to her right eye and the right side of her face. *At 1:38 p.m. a vehicle was missing license plates in the 200 block of Hussey Avenue. *Josephine County Animal Control was notified that a very large black shep- herd-mix dog was chasing an alpaca in a fenced area in the 5500 block of Westside Road at 1:45 p.m. *There was an un- locked storage unit, and fenc- ing was cut leading into the back of a building in the 200 block of S. Redwood Hwy. at 2:16 p.m. *Law enforcement checked a vehicle in the parking lot of Jubilee Park at 2:44 p.m. *A motorist in the 200 block of N. Old Stage Road was warned for failure to yield and carry proof of insur- ance at 3:25 p.m. *Right after a tenant vacated a home in the 1500 block of Thompson Creek Road, it was burglarized. The thieves threw a brick through a window to unlock the door at 3:30 p.m., then they left through a locked garage door. *A deputy warned a litterbug for trespassing on property near Madrona Drive and N. Old Stage Road at 3:32 p.m. *Normal conversation was all that could be heard during a 911 hang-up call from the 200 block of N. Old Stage Road at 3:58 p.m. *A vagrant was warned for violating city ordinances by residing in a vehicle, as well as obstructing the side- walk and panhandling near Hussey Avenue and Watkins Street at 3:58 p.m. *Law enforcement personnel could not positively identify the driver who was speeding on S. Redwood Hwy. and Caves Hwy. at 4:33 p.m. *JCSO investigated in the 900 block of Old Stage Road at 5:33 p.m. Outside the Valley *Twenty incidents. Tuesday, March 7 *The driver of a silver- colored Lexus had a choice to move it or lose it at 10:18 a.m. in the 200 block of Hussey Avenue. *SOS reported an alarm in the 28500 block of Redwood Hwy. at 10:28 a.m. *One of CJ’s Lost Boys was arrested in a building in the 200 block of S. Redwood Hwy. at 10:59 a.m. Leonard Ballard, 22, was detained at Josephine County Jail for a failure to appear warrant from Grants Pass Department of Public Safety (GPDPS). *A deputy did some research in the 600 block of Frederick Court at 12:07 p.m. *A damsel was knocked down, and her small dog was injured by a large, stocky brown pit-mix in the 24500 block of Redwood Hwy. at 12:17 p.m. A witness reported that an altercation occurred in the common area of the trailer court. *Law enforcement inspected a room at the Junc- tion Inn at 12:30 p.m. *Hot bean dip and other items were stolen from a receiving dock behind a store in the 200 block of W. Watkins Street on March 3. *A deputy patrolled the area near MP 5 on Westside Road at 1:16 p.m. *Waldo Road was checked at 1:40 p.m. *A motorist was warned for improper signal and display at 1:44 p.m. near a garden supply store in the 900 block of Caves Hwy. *JCSO made the rounds of Lake Selmac at 1:54 p.m. *The driver of a red Ford Escape was cited for DWS-V, no insurance, and improper display at 1:56 p.m. in the 200 block of S. Red- wood Hwy. *On March 2, a citizen found a black Taurus Judge while marking trail for an endurance ride south of Lake Selmac. The weapon was in a camo bag on the side of the road, on a ridge referred to as Rocky Road near McMullen Creek Road. *The deputy did not pause at Bear Creek, off Caves Hwy. at 2:28 p.m. *A guy by the name of McCaferty was detained at Josephine County Jail on a failure to appear warrant following his arrest in the 200 block of W. Watkins Street at 2:35 p.m. *A fellow’s car slid off the road six or seven miles up Bear Creek on the Thompson Creek side at 2:44 p.m. When he left to phone for help, a callous jerk broke a window and tried to take his vehicle. He was given an incident number for his insurance company. *Everything checked out fine in the 100 block of Hogue Drive at 3:27 p.m. *JCSO’s efforts paid off at 3:56 p.m. in the 400 block of S. Redwood Hwy. Luke Anthony Sawyer, 46, was detained on a felony fugitive warrant for failure to appear for dangerous drugs. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room and outside each separate sleeping area. Install alarms on every level of the home. Smoke alarms should be interconnected. When one sounds, they all sound. Large homes may need extra smoke alarms. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working. There are two kinds of alarms. Ionization smoke alarms are quicker to warn about flaming fires. Photo- electric alarms are quicker to warn about smoldering fires. It is best to use both types of alarms in the home. When a smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay outside. Replace all smoke alarms in your home every 10 years.
