The Russian government hacked used the information to help elect Trump. The CIA knew about this in August, but when President Obama informed a “bipartisan” group of Congressional leaders in September so that they might publicly repudiate the Russians, Mitch McConnell opposed any release of information, congressional inquiry, or public statement, and ironically said he’d call any release of information “political.” Now that his party won, he’s acting shocked at the news. So, voters were not allowed to know this vital information. But the candidates received regular intelligence briefings, so both candidates knew for many weeks. Yet in one debate Trump scoffed at the idea, saying the hacker(s) could be an individual— an especially blatant lie he continues to repeat. Now that the news is out, Trump chooses not to believe the CIA (as usual, he claims he knows better), supposedly because the CIA was wrong 14 years ago about Iraq. We have a President-elect who will only support and act on information from his intelligence agencies when it furthers his political interests. After obscuring the news that the Russian thumb was on the scales of our election, his spokespersons say it’s now too late to care, after “one of the biggest Electoral College victories in history,” another lie (46th largest out of 58 elections). Will Americans quietly accept this? Wonder why the Russians wanted Trump, or what else they did? Your President-elect tells you to just forget about it. Jack Dwyer Selma, OR Obituaries Evelyn Ann Evans , a longtime resident of Cave Junction, died with her family by her side, on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016 at Redwood Terrace Assisted Living Facility in Grants Pass. She was born at home in Chelsea, Mass. Oct. 9, 1915. Her father, Daniel J. Coakley was born in Ireland and her mother, Catherine (Lanin) was a first generation American of Irish descent. After graduating from Lowell High School, Evelyn attended Tewksbury State Hospital Nursing School from 1934 to 1938 and trained at Boston City Hospital. While in nursing training she delivered two healthy babies without assistance. In 1939, Evelyn married Francis (Frank) L. Evans at Saint Rita’s Church in Lowell, MA. Frank died in 1987 in Cave Junction. After giving birth to four children, Evelyn worked as a nurse at Tewksbury State Hospital from 1953 until 1956. The family then moved to California; Evelyn called California the “land of opportunity.” She provided nursing care at San Jose State University from 1956 to 1976. In 1976, when she retired to Cave Junction, she put her energy into baking. Many can attest to the deliciousness of her goodies which added inches to their waist bands. Besides baking, Evelyn also enjoyed fishing. She caught a 6.5-pound rainbow trout at Howard Prairie Lake and her picture hung at the resort for many years. Over the years, Evelyn, also, sent thousands of greeting cards to people young and old. Evelyn has been a devoted member of St. Patrick of the Forest Catholic Church since 1976. She lived at Ol’ Joe’s Mobile Home Park in Cave Junction for almost 40 years before moving to Redwood Terrace Assisted Living in August of 2015. Evelyn’s four children are: daughters, Mary Halverson of Rhome, Texas; Helen Salvi and son-in-law, Laurie Salvi of Modesto Calif.; Rita Dyer and son-in-law Russ Dyer of Cave Junction; and Joseph Evans and daughter-in- law Marit Evans of Cave Junction. She enjoyed her 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Arrangements are being completed by Hull and Hull Funeral Home. Mass will be said in her memory at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016 at Saint Patrick of the Forest Catholic Church in Cave Junction. Reception will follow internment at Laurel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to: The Illinois Valley Boys and Girls Club P.O. Box 2636, Cave Junction OR 97523. of the holiday festivities. Her craft work.
