Charges can be amended or dismissed.) *** Tuesday, July 30 *Warning: Officers were ad- vised of an attempt to locate an old- er, balding man with white hair and a messy beard who might be trying to solicit children with ice cream. He is driving a Chevy van with chipped paint and has been seen in the Kerby/ Cave Junction areas as well as parts of Grants Pass. (Parents & guard- ians: Alert your children and be on the lookout yourselves.) *In a continuing situation a Kerby resident phoned to reiterate that he believes that his neighbor is shooting his cats with a pellet gun, and that if law enforcement doesn’t “get out here now and do something about it all Hell will break loose.” Later he said that he’ll contact an at- torney. * The body of Dr. Dan Fiske, a veterinarian who operated Cross- roads Animal Hospital, and who served as president of the Cave Junction City Council, was found in his business on Caves Hwy. at 8:16 a.m. (Subsequently, Counselor Dan- iel Dalegowski was elected during an emergency meeting to serve as president; a replacement for Fiske will be chosen by the council). *An apparently non-religious person broke the locks off the fuse box to cut power at the Valley Evan- gelical Free Church. The person next threw a steel grate through the kitch- en window and climbed in, which set off an alarm. That cut short his time, and he escaped with a limited number of items. (Reminder: Thou shalt not steal.) *There was a complaint that in Downtown Cave Junction a pit bull jumped from a vehicle and tried to jump into the complainant’s vehicle to attack her dog. The vehicle in- curred scratches. *Names of a burglary suspect with a pony tail and his fence are known in connection with theft of gardening equipment and tools from a place on S. Old Stage Road. *Trespassers with odd nick- names were reported at the I.V. Se- nior Center Thrift Shop, but they left. *Squatters on Hummingbird Road were said to be growing the dreaded marijuana plant. *At 3:21 p.m. a pickup truck was upside-down at Hwy. 199 and Kerby Street. Those inside (who apparently got out) said they didn’t need help. OSP responded. *Elsewhere, outside the Val- ley: --The home, shop and pickup truck of a Thornridge Lane resident were ransacked while the owner was away. --Ryan Briney, 29, was arrested by Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safe- ty (GPDPS) under a non-bail warrant from Josephine County Sheriff’s Of- fice (JCSO) charging parole viola- tion detainer/unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was jailed. --Julie Star Gilkey, 39, was ar- rested by Jackson County lawmen under a JCSO warrant charging fail- ure to appear on a charge of posses- sion of a controlled substance/meth- amphetamine. She was placed in a jail. --Jerry L. Lee, 36, was arrested by GPDPS under a JCSO warrant charging parole violation/weapon use. He went to jail. --A widow on Soldier Creek Road said that someone stole her wedding rings. Strangely enough, a wedding ring valued at approximate- ly $3,500 was reported stolen from Cedar Flat Road. --Some $2,300 worth of items, including rings that included wed- ding bands, were reported stolen from Thornbrook Drive. (Is nothing sacred?) Thursday, Aug. 1 *At 8:21 a.m. a 911 hang-up call was received. It seemed to come from the Illinois Valley Visitor Cen- ter. It might also have come from the U.S. Forest Service’s I.V. Rang- er District office. But there was no problem that anyone could find. *All sorts of threats were said to be made against a woman on Crest Drive, including knocking out all her teeth, and the culprit is putting photos of her naked on FaceBook, she said. *Someone driving a white, old- I.V. GUNS & AMMO 541-592-3349 er box-type truck with a pink stripe around the bottom was said to be do- ing so recklessly in Kerby. OSP was notified. *Elsewhere in Josephine County: --Numerous telephone calls were received about a suspicious ve- hicle (and likely a suspicious person inside) in the Foothill Blvd./Jones Creek Road area. Residents were concerned that their neighborhood was being checked out for possible burglaries. The driver apparently was knocking at doors and asking for water. (Sounds like “casing the joint.”) --A man on medication in rural GP reported that someone with a gun was under his home, and that 10 to 15 people were staring at him. The man’s mother said that she’d look into having his meds adjusted. --Some $400 worth of towels, wrenches and clothing were reported taken from his home, said a man on Gordon Way. He feels that someone has a key to his door locks. (Hint: change the locks.) --Third-degree theft involving an Oregon Trail (welfare) card with $500 credit on it was reported by a woman, who said that it was taken from her glove compartment on Al- len Creek Road. --At a Wolf Creek business a panhandler was yelling at custom- ers. The caller was advised that it was “beyond available resources” to respond. --Animal Control was to be con- tacted about a crying goat on Gordon Way that might not have food. Saturday, Aug. 3 *Near Selma off Hwy. 199 a load of hay was dumped (acciden- tally). The owner retrieved it. *That’s it for today in the Val- ley. *Elsewhere, but still close to home: --Second-degree burglary was reported at a business on Upper River Road. The jerks pushed an air conditioner into the building to gain access. --On Onion Mtn. Road an aban- doned car was found in a ditch with the keys on the ground. The owner later reported it stolen. --On Woodland Park Road a resident stated that an apparently bogus Pacific Power employee was looking around. PacPow stated that the man was not an employee and was driving a truck that’s not a com- pany rig. --There was a complaint from Rogue River Hwy. that a mentally disturbed, aggressive woman was breaking a man’s stuff and might have damaged him. --Someone speaking Span- ish apparently was trying to reach a woman’s ex-husband in rural GP to have him call his mother.
