She added, “How fortu- nate we are that in a world of ever faster communications, electronic gadgetry, and an uncertain political and cli- matic future, people still gather to simply sing. RCC to host transfer fair Representatives from 16 Oregon colleges and universi- ties will participate in the annual Transfer Fair on Fri- day, Jan. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Center at Rogue Community College, 3345 Redwood Hwy. in Grants Pass. The concert will be repeated on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. at Newman United Methodist Church, 132 N.E. B St. in Grants Pass. There is a charge for admission. The Chorale will perform Alleluia, by John Tavener, the choir’s farewell tribute to Dave Marston, its founding director. Waiting for the Lark, a Celtic lullaby, will be ac- companied by Tim Wallace on flute. There also will be an original piece written by local composer I’lana Cotton who will accompany the choir. Works by Mozart, Mau- rice Durufle, Kristina Vasili- auskaite, Johann Jeep, and Bill Douglas, as well as tradi- tional folk music from North America, the British Isles and Nigeria, also will be included transferring to their school of choice. In order to present a se- ries of Sunday movie mati- nees, the Grants Pass Mu- seum of Art and Josephine Community Libraries Inc. are pooling their efforts. Showings will be in the Ben Bones Room at the Grants Pass Branch of the library at 200 N.W. C St The series will begin at 2 p.m. Jan. 17. Admission is free. The first movie in the series, exploring the amazing life story of painter Frida Kahlo after her marriage to famous Mexican painter, Diego Rivera, will include their journeys to America. The film showcases the outra- geous personalities that made them legends. Kahlo was an incredible force of a woman despite the fact that her right leg was crippled by polio in her youth, and that she was in a bus accident that almost ended her life. Feb. 21: Edward Bloom has always been a teller of tall tales, especially about his own life. March 21: This excellent example of the Western genre (The Searchers) with director John Ford’s vigorous touch, features John Wayne as a driven man relentlessly searching for his niece, kid- napped by Indians.
