Watkins Street a resident noted that a win- dow had been removed, and that stuff might be missing. He said that the crooks ap- parently know when he’s not home. Monday, July 16 *Someone stole a full propane tank from Illinois Valley Grange Hall with a loss of $200. *Because a pipe was run onto his property by a neighbor in the 7000 block of Caves Hwy., a man said that he was upset. *A wandering cow was reported in the 1000 block of Lakeshore Drive at 6:43 a.m. *Because of fraudulent deposits, Evergreen Federal Bank took a $915 loss. *Beer bottles were thrown from a car being driven recklessly on Westside Road at 10:48 a.m. *Julie Josephine Britt, 42, was arrested in Cave Junction under warrants charging failure to appear (FTA) on charges of sec- ond-degree theft and first- degree theft. *Theft of firewood from the 1200 block of Deer Creek Road was reported. *Daniel Troy Harwood, 16, was taken into custody in Cave Junction on a charge of probation viola- tion. *Someone had an acci- dent out Happy Camp Road and ended up 10 feet down an embankment. PUBLIC NOTICE TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Josephine County Commissioners will con- duct informal meetings with pub- lic officials, county department heads and employees, and other citizens, every legal day, Monday through Friday, with the excep- tion of Wednesday, between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 12:00 P.M. and 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., in Room 154 of the Josephine County Courthouse. On Wednes- days, the office hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. and 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. A daily sched- ule of all prearranged meetings will be posted each morning beginning at 8:00 A.M. from the Executive Secretary of the Board of Commissioners. The purpose of these meetings will be to gather information, discuss is- sues, and deliberate toward deci- sions concerning matters of pub- lic policy and concern. A deputy checked the area, and while speaking with the complainant, the girl arrived home. “All was well.” Thursday, July 19 *Cash, a cell phone, ID and keys in a purse were reported stolen from a pickup truck on Illinois River Road. *Six marijuana plants were seized on Pine Cone Drive. *Employee error caused an alarm at Abiding in the Vine at 10:12 a.m. *There was a continu- ing problem on Westside Road with a child playing with a telephone and dialing 911. *A “suspicious inci- dent” was noted on W. Schumacher Street. A woman drove onto a parking lot; used a rag to wipe off the steering wheel, door frame and door handle of her pickup truck; walked to a group of transients and let her hair down; then changed her shirt and threw the one she had been wearing into a trash container. *When a woman re- turned home in rural Cave Junction, all the locks had been changed at her house, and there were notices about the property being in pro- bate. *O’Brien Country Store lost $7 worth of fuel to a thief in a car. *Some $50 worth of damage was reported after someone broke into a house in the 7000 block of Caves Hwy. *Gunshots were heard on Warren Road. The com- plainant feels the shooting is for intimidation. *Reckless drivers were reported at the end of W. Schumacher Street. *Theft of a 1966 pickup truck was reported in the 9000 block of Takilma Road. It was located in Cave Junction. *Younger people speed- ing at 90 mph and “doing brodies” were complained about on Pine Cone Drive. *Possible harassment by people shooting a gun was logged from Lone Mt. Road. Friday, July 20 *Following a complaint of a reckless driver in the Hwy. 199/Lakeshore Drive area at 1:08 a.m., the vehicle was found, but all the people had gone to bed. *A girl, 16, returned home on Dick George Road after being reported as a runaway juvenile person. *Theft of a $50 bicycle from Pinewood Way was reported. *Ten to 15 intoxicated transients, and what sounded like a gunshot, were reported behind Sub- way in Cave Junction at 11:50 a.m. As a deputy ar- rived, they all left. *Custodial interference was reported in Kerby. *There was a phone call from a Cave Junction bar at 7:17 p.m. from a man who said he got punched. He wouldn’t answer any ques- tions and hung up. He phoned again with what sounded like a license plate and hung up again. *People were reported fighting on S. Caves Ave- nue at 10:03 p.m. *A ransacked house and a boy, 17, with a bloody face were noted on S. Junc- tion Avenue at 10:09 p.m. Saturday, July 21 *People lacking brains used orange pylons and a lighted sign to totally block Hwy. 199 at the north end of Cave Junction at 11 past midnight. The obstructions were cleared. *At Illinois River “Forks” State Park at 1:38 a.m. a man and woman, who live in their car, were advised of park hours. They were too intoxicated to leave the area. *Fred Tamayo, 52, was arrested on N. Junction Ave- nue on charges of fourth- degree assault, and felony strangulation and menacing after a woman complained. *Subsequent to a report of a pickup truck stolen from Rough & Ready Lum- ber Co. property, it was found that John L. Spradley, 32, had been arrested with the vehicle by the California Highway Patrol. Initial charges were driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII) and resisting arrest. Until the stolen match was made. *Four people were yell- ing in the 6000 block of Takilma Road at 8:26 p.m. *“Dialing error” caused a 911 hang-up call from Addison Lane at 8:41 p.m. *Harassment was re- ported on Westside Road. The complainant feels that a neighbor purposely is firing a gun toward his house. *At Lake Selmac a man wearing a jacket with “Otis” on the back was warned about being in bushes near a woman’s rest room. He ac- cused the complainant of messing with his bicycle. It was thought that maybe he was under the influence of something. Sunday, July 22 *It was found that an alarm at Lorna Byrne Mid- dle School at 8:42 a.m. was caused by an authorized church group. *Following a report of three intoxicated transients on a driveway and refusing to leave on S. Hussey Ave- nue, Jeremy Justin Beck, 27, was cited to appear on a warrant charging FTA on a charge of third-degree theft. And the three were told to move on. *At 12:36 p.m. behind Evergreen Federal Bank in Cave Junction, Robert James Myers, 37, was cited to appear on four FTA war- rants. They charge third- degree sexual abuse, fourth- degree assault and menac- ing, and two for second- degree criminal trespass. *At Speedy Mart in Cave Junction, Michael Ja- son Phillips, 36, was cited on a charge of DUII. Phone 596-2673 under a warrant charging possession of methampheta- mine and FTA on a charge of providing false informa- tion. *A Happy Camp Road resident was irate because, he said, his neighbor was shooting a gun unsafely. Eventually, all calmed down, and the neighbor said he didn’t realize that three rounds went over the com- plainant’s head. *On Thompson Creek Road close to midnight, a woman reported a possible prowler, and was concerned because her son, she said, has threatened to saw off her head. The area was checked; several deer were present. While the deputy was still on-scene, the son phoned and was warned about tele- phonic harassment. Monday, July 23 *Some fool tried to break into the Federal Para- legal office in Cave Junc- tion, causing a reported $500 damage to a glass door. *Following a call about a large black cow on Reeves Creek Road at Hwy. 199, the owner couldn’t be con- tacted at 7:33 a.m. *Theft of a 1980 pickup truck was reported in the 300 block of Caves Avenue. *After obtaining $48 worth of gasoline at O’Brien Country Store, people in a newer gold-colored Dodge Quest van drove away with- out paying, a manager said. *While his car was parked in the 6000 block of Illinois River Road, punks got into it and took cash, various ID, a CD player and CDs, a man complained. *Outlaws tried to enter King’s Chinese Cuisine, causing damage to pipes and the roof. *Debra C. Perazzo, 43, was cited in Cave Junction on charges of DWS and not having insurance. The vehi- cle was impounded. *Theft of a $2,100 Craftsman green-colored riding lawn mower and its $1,100 trailer was reported on Forest Creek Road. *Some $2,000 worth of cash withdrawals likely were the work of an as yet unknown suspect who used her credit card, said a woman on Westside Road. *In Cave Junction, David Ray Baker, 56, was cited on a charge of failing to renew his vehicle regis- tration. *When a deputy deliv- ered a subpoena in rural Grants Pass, a Black Lab mix dog named “Harley” bit his left leg. Medical care was to be sought for the deputy. *Christopher John Alexander, 44, was cited on Laurel Road on charges of DWS and driving without insurance. His vehicle was impounded. *On Crooks Creek Road, a man was warned about his action after a neighbor said that he hit his right hand with a metal post. *Some $1,000 damage was caused when mindless vandals smashed the wind- shield of a large RV on S. Junction Avenue. *A 47-year-old man was warned about tele- phonic harassment and tres- Page 7 passing after the mother of a teen-age girl in rural Cave Junction reported that the man is attracted to the girl. He also was accused of sending an email referring to being happy because of mass murder. Tuesday, July 24 *Screaming by a woman and a child near or in a motorhome near the Eight Dollar Mt. Road green bridge, plus two gunshots, a loud clang and people run- ning about prompted a call at 12:37 a.m. Nothing was found, and it was noted that regular patrol vehicles can’t navigate some side roads. *A Bowie knife, de- pression and six shots of brandy figured in an unfor- tunate situation on Westside Road at 1:12 a.m., prompt- ing a voluntary mental hold by a resident. *Repossession of a ve- hicle was reported in the 28000 block of Redwood Hwy., and the license plates were removed at 8:13 a.m. *Juvenile people were said to be throwing rocks and dirt clods at an above- ground pool on Shadow- brook Drive, causing dam- age. One of the suspects might be a girl approxi- mately 8 years old. *Custodial interference was reported by a Caves Avenue resident, who said that he has full child cus- tody, but that after his di- vorce his former wife took the children to another state. *Kevin Louis Cleman, 49, was cited in Selma on charges of driving uninsured and driving while suspended (Continued on page 8)
