Arrangements are pend- ing at Illinois Valley Funeral Home. Bertha May Renecker Bertha May “Dude” Re- necker, 80, of O’Brien, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006 at home. She was born Oct. 23, 1926 in Rupert, Ark., and was one of 11 children. When she was 14 she moved to Washing- ton state and met the love of her life. On Aug. 30, 1946 in a double ceremony with her sis- ter in Vancouver, Wash. she married James Edward Re- necker. During World War II she worked in connection with dehydrators and later worked as a fruit picker in vineyards, orchards and cotton fields. She lived in Creswell, Cottage Grove, near Shady Grove, and in 1972 moved to O’Brien. She loved to garden, growing all her own fruit and vegetables, and enjoyed can- ning, cooking for her family, and yard sales. She was very generous, sending her nephew to college, and paid for her niece’s wed- ding. She rarely spent money on herself, and her family could rely on her. Survivors include her hus- band, James Renecker; two sisters; four brothers; two nephews; two great-nieces; and two great-nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Laura Lee Renecker; and a great- nephew. A memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 9 at Illinois Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Southern Oregon Cremation Services is in charge of ar- rangements. William A. Davis William Arthur Davis, 64, of Cave Junction, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006 at his residence. He was born Sept. 28, 1942 in Citrus Heights, Calif. He retired from civil service as an aircraft instruments repair- man. He moved to Illinois Val- ley 12 years ago from Sacra- mento. He was a member of the “Band of Brothers” group in Cave Junction. He enjoyed his two cats, “Sissy and Trip- per,” and fed the squirrel popu- lation in his neighborhood. Mr. Davis is survived by two daughters, Laura Ander- son, of Citrus Heights, and Darlene Wehe, of Rio Linda, Calif.; two brothers, John Tie- man, of Roseville, Calif., and Robert Mickles of Sacramento; a sister, Carolyn Berbles, of Sacramento; five grandchil- dren; and one great- granddaughter. Arrangements are being directed by Illinois Valley Fu- neral Home. A celebration of his life service will be held Sunday, Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. at the My Brothers Pub in Cave Junction. uel “Lucky” Warren, who pre- ceded her in death on Jan. 14, 2001. She moved from Chula Vista to Cave Junction 33 years ago. She was a member of Bridgeview Community Church in Cave Junction. She enjoyed playing bingo at Illi- nois Valley Senior Center. Surviving are a daughter, Judith Ann Reichenbach, of Cave Junction; two sons, John Michael DeGour, of Carlsbad, Calif., and Richard Carl De- Gour of San Jose, Calif.; a sis- ter, Betty Jane Ogden, of Geor- gia; two brothers, Calvin Mountz, of Birdsboro, Pa., and Robert Mountz, of State Col- lege, Pa.; and six grandchil- dren. Elton ‘Doc’ Berkman during World War II as a chief signalman. He was working as a truck driver when he was involved in a severe accident. He was helped by a chiropractor and decided that was the profession he would enter. His practice was in Colorado City, Texas. He served as president of the Texas State Chiropractic Board for many years. He earned his aircraft pi- lot’s license and enjoyed flying with his wife into Houston for Astros baseball games. He was a member of the Masons and Scottish Rite. In 1976 the couple moved to their ranch in Kerby, where they lived for 15 years before moving to Grants Pass. They moved to McMinnville in No- vember 2006 from Grants Pass. Surviving are his spouse, Dr. Virginia Berman, of McMinnville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Berk- man, Weaver Berkman, and Walter Berkham; and a sister, Ruth Fowler. Hillcrest Drive, Grants Pass. Mrs. Maring was born on Feb. 27, 1962 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a 1980 graduate of Illinois Valley High School. She is survived by a son, Jordan Maring; a daughter, Taylor Maring; her mother, Suzanne Melton; and a brother, Randy Melton, all of Eugene. Ray Summerhill Cave Junction resident Ray Summerhill, 72, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford. Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors Chapel in Grants Pass. A grave- side service will be held the same day at 2 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Mr. Summerhill was born Sept. 28, 1934 in Fort Smith, Ark. He served in the U.S. Army. Lori Melton Maring Verna Marie Warren Verna Marie Warren, 92, of Cave Junction, died Tues- day, Dec. 5, 2006 at her home. Mrs. Warren was born Jan. 3, 1914 in Berks County in Pennsylvania. She completed her registered nurse schooling in Redding, Pa., and worked at the Homeopathic Hospital there. In 1945 she moved to Chula Vista, Calif., where she worked at Chula Vista Hospital as a registered nurse and ob- stetrics department supervisor. On Dec. 24, 1957 in Chula Vista she married Carlyle Sam- Former Illinois Valley resident Elton “Doc” Berkman, 88, of McMinnville, died Mon- day, Dec. 4, 2006 at Wil- lamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville. Mr. Berkman was born June 4, 1918 in Roganville, Texas to Roy and Hatti Weaver Berkman. He went to school in Seat- tle. He married Virginia Boyn- ton on Feb. 4, 1938 in Seattle.
