Page 5 Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, October 6, 2004 Free seminar on genealogy set for Oct. 16 Heather Oldham Heather Oldham, 22, of Cave Junction, died on Sept. 24, 2004 at Oregon Health and Sciences Uni- versity (OHSU) in Port- land. A funeral will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick of the Forest Catholic Church in Cave Junction. Heather was born on June 16, 1982. She gradu- ated from Illinois Valley High School in 2000. Her hobbies were making rosaries for St. Patrick’s; drawing and painting wildlife; writing poetry; and animal care. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Pamela and Timothy Downey, of Cave Junction; her father and stepmother, Phillip and Kathy Oldham, of Utah; four sisters, Jenni- fer Oldham, of California, Alyssa Downey and Kel- sey Downey, Cave Junc- tion, and Brittany Oldham, of Utah; and two brothers, Ryan Downey, of Cave Junction, and John Old- ham, of Utah. She also leaves behind her boyfriend, Ahov Isreal Bar Brandow, of Cave Junction, who was with her during the week she was at OHSU before she died. They had planned to marry, but had not made an official announcement. She worked at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center; later operated Leisure Manor; and was a self-employed home health-care provider. She lived in Selma during 2003. She especially enjoyed crafts, including needle- point, cross-stitch, paint- ing, and doll-making. She was a collector of Betty Boop memorabilia. Survivors are two daughters, Sherri Willis, of Selma, and Jennifer Sta- cey, of Corona, Calif.; two brothers, Terry Barron, and Mike Barron, both of Colorado; and a sister, Tammy Barron, of San Bernardino, Calif.; and three grandchildren, all of Selma. Mark Adair Adams Mark Adair Adams, 46, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004 in Grants Pass. No services are planned. Hull & Hull Fu- neral Directors handled arrangements. Mr. Adams was born on Aug. 17, 1958 in Mesa, Ariz. He worked as a cook. He moved to Grants Pass 15 years ago from Califor- nia. He enjoyed cooking. Surviving are his daughter, Christina Ad- ams, of Cave Junction; his mother, Leslie Harris, of Lathrop, Calif.; his brother, Michael Walker, of Grants Pass; and his sister, Della Yeardley, of Garden Grove, Calif. Verda ‘Babe’ Nealy Former Kerby resi- dent, Verda “Babe” Nealy, 91, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004 at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Grants Pass. Visitation was held at Hull & Hull Chapel on Friday, Oct. 1. Interment followed at Laurel Ceme- tery in Cave Junction. Mrs. Nealy was born on Dec. 17, 1912 in Kerby, and lived in Oregon all her life. She attended the for- mer Kerby Union High School. On Jan. 11, 1935 in Grants Pass, she married Richard E. Nealy, who died in 1991. She lived in Illinois Valley until 1953, then moved to Grants Pass. She was a lifetime member of Josephine County Historical Society, and Rebekah Lodge in Kerby. She volunteered for the Josephine County De- mocratic Party. She espe- cially enjoyed collecting antiques, flower gardening, and local history. She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Gaid- more, of San Diego; a son, Richard “Duane” Nealy, of Green Valley, Ariz.; a sis- ter, Lorna Byrne, of Cave Junction; four grandchil- dren; and two great- grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Val Nealy, in 1941. Memorial contribu- tions in Mrs. Nealy’s name can be made to Josephine County Historical Society, 512 S.W. Fifth St., Grants Pass OR 97526; or Laurel Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 994, Cave Junc- tion OR 97523. Regina C. Watts Longtime Selma resi- dent Regina C. Watts, 79, of Grants Pass, died Mon- day, Sept. 27, 2004 at a health center there. A graveside service was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7 at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Deacon Jim McVeigh of St. Anne Catholic Church, Grants Pass, was to officiate. L.B. Hall Funeral Home is in charge of ar- rangements. Mrs. Watts was born Regina Charlotte Wunder on Feb. 4, 1925 in Balti- more, Md. In 1944 in San Francisco she wed John M. Watts, who died in 1990. They moved to Selma from San Diego in 1965. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Watts was a member of St. Patrick of the Forest Catholic Church in Cave Junction, and the Fleet Reserve Association Auxiliary. She enjoyed music and shooting pool. She is survived by her son, John M. Watts Jr., Selma; and a sister, Anna Montgomery, of Westmin- ster, Md. FAIREST OF THE FAIRE - These two girls were among the hundreds of persons who attended the annual Hope Mountain Barter Faire last weekend. It was a benefit for Dome School in Takilma. A free nondenomina- tional genealogy seminar, open to the public, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16. Preregistration by Fri- day, Oct. 8 is urged, as classes are limited. Late registration will be ac- cepted on the day of the seminar, but class choices could be limited. The program, to help people discover their fam- ily histories, will be held at 1969 Williams Hwy. Classes “that cover all levels of genealogical re- search” are offered. It is suggested that participants bring brown bag lunches.
