Page 4 Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, October 6, 2004 (Continued from page 3) home, opened the package and found it empty, would- n’t you be mad as hell? Most would go right back and demand our money. How is it that our gov- ernment takes 117 days a year worth of wages from the average wage earner in taxes, yet the national debt is equal to $120,000 for every man, woman, and child in this country. “This includes federal obligation to Social Security and Medicare” (“Libertarian View Point,” Vol. I, Issue I, page 8.) That was in 2001. Where is our health care, schools, inner cities, libraries, senior centers, youth centers, etc. It all gets discussed at the $10,000-a-plate dinners that speak of how to fix poverty and hunger in this, our oh-so-great nation. On the box it said: health care, decent education, senior centers, youth centers, li- braries, safe highways, safe railroads, etc., and much more. But the money gets given, actually taken, but the box is empty. Why are we not demanding to see management and demand- ing services paid for? Or at least give us our money back. Anything less is what? Yup, straight-up robbery. Maybe we are insane. Not because we have been lied to and robbed, but be- cause we accept these liars and robbers and put them in positions to do it again and again. That’s not only pathetic, it’s down right embarrassing, wouldn’t you say? Time for a change. The choices are bleak at best, but I have to say two things. A vote for Nader is a vote for Bush. I say vote for Kerry and then let’s “get to work.” Let’s begin to hold our govern- ment an all levels account- able for their actions or the lack thereof. The only things keep- ing this democracy alive are those who have died to create and defend it, and the will and resolve of “we the people.” In my lifetime, from what I see going on, that will and resolve appear to be weakening. Bought off by a few pieces of silver; i.e., tax returns, or what- ever diversions money can buy. Are we insane? Boss to secretary: ‘Let’s form a committee to create a task force to develop a team to determine the fastest way to deal with the problem. - Randy Glasbergen - *Commissioners need to have a financial and managerial background. I have both the background and the backbone. *Public Safety: family wage jobs; planned growth; improved senior/ disabled services; protecting taxpayers dollars; and adjusting the excessive salaries, vacation, managerial/staff ratios. *On water resources, I would save Savage Rapids Dam and complete Elk Creek Dam. “Hard working, consistency, ethics… it is my pleasure to support my friend Dwight Ellis.” - Senator Jason A.
