(Hoskins’ Home) By JOY HOSKINS It’s October 2003 and Life Lines, a Cave Junc- tion-based prison ministry, is 9 years old. We give all glory to a loving God, who has given us the privilege of ministering. We’re family! Ours is a special bond of the Spirit as we’ve shared our fam- ily, our ups and downs, and our blessings and sor- rows. Life Lines is not a multimillion dollar organi- zation, but a small group who love Jesus and have a special calling to send love and encouragement to those behind prison bars. Some might think that our letters are not personal. But if you think that, you will miss the love and spiritual intent from our end. We have peace about what we are doing; so if peace is our “umpire,” then we know we’re on the right road. The Bible is the word of God. It is the Truth. It’s called our “roadmap” for life, and someone said, Always take your roadmap with you -- just in case you find yourself going no- where.” Going nowhere: That’s the state we’re all in before turning our lives over to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. I was going nowhere, and was lost and lonely apart from God. In my des- peration I cried out to Je- sus to save me. What was my problem? Hadn’t I grown up going to church and Sunday school? Had- n’t I gone down the aisle at 16 to be baptized? Then why did I still feel lost? You see, I had “head knowledge,” but not “heart knowledge.” I had not been living for the Lord. How could I? I didn’t know Him. Only I didn’t know that I didn’t know -- I was sick of my life and needed help. And I needed peace in my life. I’m not talking about just a peaceful time around the house in-between prob- lems. No, I mean that total peace in your heart that no matter what’s going on around you, you know that you are a child of God. You know that you’re headed home to Heaven. Philippians 4:7 tells us that God’s peace “passeth all understanding.” That’s what I received that day in November 1965. I met Je- sus Christ when I surren- dered my life to Him. Now I know that I’m on the right road. Here at Life Lines there are many great testi- monies about lives being turned around, with broth- ers and sisters getting on the right road. Our friend John is a walking testi- mony of God’s grace. ST. PATRICK OF THE FOREST CATHOLIC CHURCH 407 W. In bibli- cal times, the Jews longed for it. In Martin Luther’s time, it was freedom from the church’s power and his own freedom from sin that he struggled with. But that freedom comes with the responsibility to give of ourselves, our time and our talents in supporting the church.
