The Mass was to be celebrated on Wednesday, Aug. 20 by the Rev. Tony Gonzalez, a family friend, from Los Angeles. Mrs. Rodriguez will be cre- mated and the remains will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego. Survivors include two sons, Robert R. “Bob” Rodriguez of Cave Junc- tion, and Stephen R. Rod- riguez of Corpus Christi, Texas. Her husband, Jose Armando Rodriguez, died in February 2002 at the age of 88. James R. Bitney James R. Bitney, 76, of Cave Junction died on Sunday, July 20, 2003 at his home. Cremation and a private service followed. Mr. Bitney was born on Dec. 15, 1926 in Na- tional City, Calif. He joined the Merchant Ma- rines after high school in 1942. After serving his coun- try, he worked for the Ford agency in Burbank, Calif. until he was recalled into active services with the Air Force until 1956. For the next 19 years he was very active in the motion film business at the Pathe Studios in Holly- wood, Calif. In 1975, he accepted a job of ranch manager at Deer Creek Ranch in Selma. He had never been, or worked, on a ranch before, but with the help of neighbors Paul and Bill Pfohl and family at Q Bar Ranch, Joe and his father Sam Wilson, Carl Alleman and lots of book reading, he said he finally got the “hang” of ranching. St. Patrick of the Forest Catholic Church Just a note to officially thank Father Casmir On- yegwara for coming to Cave Junction to celebrate Mass on Aug. 10. During this Mass he baptized Elli- ott Michael John Harris, the first Sacrament of Bap- tism he performed since coming to Saint Anne’s on July 1. Another recent cele- bration was the Feast of the Assumption on Friday, Aug. 15 when we honored Mary, the mother of Jesus, who was assumed into heaven by her Son. Next on our liturgy agenda will be the 21st Sunday in Or- dinary Time when we will continue our focus on John’s Gospel, Chapter 6. Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, August 20, 2003 After the ranch was sold, Jim moved to Cave Junction.
