American Legion Auxiliary Unit 70 One of the American Auxiliary Unit 70s many projects is to send afghans and lap robes to the Veterans Affairs (VA) hos- pitals in Portland and Roseburg. Last March 110 afghans were given to patients. The lap robes are given out to wheelchair patients. These items are greatly appreciated by the veterans, they not only give warmth but a touch of home, and they certainly brighten their rooms. Handmade ditty bags to hold toiletry items are also a welcome item. Baked goods are delivered to the Do- miciliary in White City. In December new items are donated to the VA hospitals for their Christmas gift shop. All hospitalized veterans come into the gift shop and select gifts for their families free of charge. The gifts are then wrapped and mailed to the family in the name of the veteran. Many volunteer hours go into this pro- ject. The woman of Unit 70 appreciated those in the community who have helped by either buying a poppy or donating an afghan. For information about joining Unit 70 phone Ellie Buell, poppy chairman at 592- 6771. O’Brien man wanted by police found dead Indications are that a man found shot to death in a remote area near O’Brien died of a self-inflicted wound, according to Josephine County Sheriff’s Office. The man was identified as Robert W. Bu- roker, 37, of Selma. His partially decomposed body was found on pri- vate land near a stream in the 1500 block of Lone Mountain Road on Monday, July 28. He had been sought in connec- tion with a domes- tic dispute in June. Further indica- tions are that Bu- roker might have committed suicide because he did not want to return to prison. He had served time in prison on a charge of being a felon in possession of a weapon. An autopsy has been sched- uled. Gun Show GUN & KNIFE SHOW Please don’t drink and drive.
