Watershed Council Di- rectors are appointed for a period of 4 years and also serve as Asso- ciate Directors on the Illinois Valley Soil and Water Conservation District. Applicants must meet the minimum re- quirements as follows: must be a resident of the Illinois Valley; have demonstrated a com- mitment to the environ- ment; have demon- strated the ability to work in cooperation with other community mem- bers; and be willing to accomplish the goals of the Watershed Council. Komen Breast Cancer Foun- dation, the “premier volunteer organiza- tion on breast can- cer,” announced its 2003-’04 board of officers. Tina Foster, a US Bank senior vice president and region manager for Oregon and S.W. Washing- ton, has been named president of the local affiliate. Others: Vice president, Sia Lindstrom, Mult- nomah County Health Dept.; secre- tary, Susan Schwartz, River Network, direc- tor of finance and administration; treas- urer, Shirley Cyr, JoCo sees dip in jobs in during past month Five of Oregon’s 31 local labor market areas lost jobs in March and 24 gained jobs, a result better than in March 2001 but not as positive as in March 2002. The biggest losses were in Jose- phine County (-150) and Hood River County (-130). Oregon’s non- farm payroll employ- ment was up by 1,600 jobs in March, about 4,900 less than normal for the month. Big gainers in- cluded Jackson County (+650 jobs), the Salem metro area (+500), Benton County (+490), and the Portland metro Moss Adams. The 2003 Komen Portland Race for the Cure co-chairmen, Cathyrn Cushing and Robin Hawley, will share responsibility for overall race coor- dination. Cushing is the owner of Port- land-based Cushing Consulting; and Hawley is a project manager for the city of Portland. Kelley earns top honor IVHS senior Erin Kelley is April’s Principal Student of the Month. Kelley is the daughter of Michael and Kathy Kelley. She has kept a 3.5 grade point average. She is a member of the high school equestrian team and placed second nation- ally in horsemanship for showing and en- durance riding. Her favorite classes are English, creative writing and chemistry. Kelley is in- volved in the Smart Reading Program at Evergreen Elemen- tary School, and she works at Kids Camp in the summer. After graduation Kelley plans to take a year off from school to ride and travel, and then attend college. area (+300).
