Alan Crews (USAF ret.) led a contingent of U.S. Air Force Jr. ROTC participants in varying uniforms for the Career Day at Lorna Byrne Middle School on Wednesday, April 30. Crews told the middle school students attending the ROTC presentation that he was not there to recruit them, but simply to provide informa- tion about the ROTC program and the possibilities it can of- fer. Oregon com- peted against other states to receive $807,050 out of the $24 million program. This program helps to rec- ognize, preserve and enhance scenic roads and highways throughout the United States. The projects funded under the grant money include: *$170,800 to provide two public viewing areas to the Depoe Bay Harbor. *$311,850 to construct waysides at the north and south ends of the Siuslaw River Bridge. *$24,800 to update and define the corridor manage- ment plan for the Hells Can- yon All-American Road. *$22,000 to plan for inter- pretive centers and kiosks along Oregon’s Outback, in central/southeastern Oregon. *$220,000 to restore a 10- acre grave pit adjacent to the Rowena Crest Mayer State Park. *$57,600 to for a manage- ment interpretive plan and design guide for the West Cascades Scenic Byway. “The grants will enable Oregon to develop projects such as constructing interpre- tive waysides and public viewing areas along its All- American Roads, National Scenic Byways and state des- ignated byways,” according to ODOT. 1.
