Page 6 Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR 97523, January 1, 2003 Chain Link Specialist 592-6192 Boy, 12, dies in ATV crash Brennon Herman, 12, of Grants Pass, died of injuries suffered Sunday, Dec. 22, when a four-wheeled Honda ATV struck a “ledge” as he was coming out of the ditch, according to Lt. Lee Harman, of the Josephine County Sher- iff’s Office. The ledge, possibly made of asphalt, caused the ATV to flip backward over the boy, crushing him, causing him to die of chest and head trauma, according to an autopsy. Ac- cording to Sheriff Dave Daniel, he was not wearing a helmet. The mishap occurred on private property near Merlin. Medics from American Medical Response and Rural/ Metro Fire Dept. were unable to revive the boy, and he was later pronounced dead at Three Rivers Community Hospital.
