Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR 97523, October 16, 2002 Page 4 Jefferson Orchestra going for ‘Baroque’ A program of sacred and secular music by three giants of the Baroque will be presented when Jefferson Baroque Orchestra (JBO) em- barks upon its ninth season on Saturday, Oct. 19. The program, beginning at 8 p.m., will fea- ture works by Bach, Telemann and Vivaldi. It will be given at Newman United Methodist Church, Sixth and B streets in Grants Pass. The concert will be directed by Margret Gries, a Baroque violinist and harpsichordist from Ellensburg, Wash. Tickets will be available a the door, and advance tickets are available at the Book Ex- change in Western Plaza in Cave Junction. The program will include Telemann’s con- certos for flute, oboe’d’amore and viola d’amore; recorder and bassoon; and trumpet and two oboes. Also Vivaldi’s G minor cello con- certo, and Bach’s Cantata No. 26, “Ach wie flu- chtig, ach wie nichtig.” Several soloists will perform. Winter concert performances are set for Nov. 30 in Grants Pass, and Dec. 1 in Ashland. JBO’s winter concert will include one of Handel’s “Grand Concertos,” and Christmas portion of “Messiah” under the direction of Pat O’Scannell, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Green Show music director. Internationally acclaimed baroque violinist Michael Sand will return to direct JBO’s spring concert.
