Siletz Community Health Clinic Annual Pap-A-Thon Oct. 17,2012 Appointments available from noon to 7:30 p.m. Child care available from noon to 4 p.m. upon request The goal of the Pap-A-Thon is to provide an opportunity for our care givers to be cared for. We also offer a generous selection of appetizers and raffle prizes. This is a women-only event. All registered patients are invited to call for an appointment. If you are a non-Native patient, this service is provided at no charge, but we do bill private insurance if you have it. Lakota Oyate Ki was created in 1968 and “allows inmates who are interested in Native American culture the opportunity to involve themselves in traditional Native practices and crafts, allows the Native inmates a means to address their concerns and needs to the administration and provides an organizational means for those who wish to worship in traditional ways," according to a brochure distributed at the pow-wow. Resolution No. 2012 - 294 Date Approved: September 21,2012 ^^Clothesline Proi® NO II means NO II RESPECT Break the Subject- October - Domestic Violence Awareness Month SILETZ TRIBAL COUNCIL Resolution WHEREAS, the Siletz Tribal Council is empowered to exercise the legislative and executive authority of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon pursuant to Article IV, Section I of the Siletz. Constitution approved June 13, 1979, by the Acting Deputy Commissioner of Indian Affairs; and WHEREAS. the Siletz Tribal Council recognizes that domestic and family violence is a serious crime against women, the Tribe, the family and society; and WHEREAS, American Indian women experience the highest rate of violent crime than that of all races, age 12 and over; and WHEREAS, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking are all forms of violence experienced by women; and WHEREAS, the crime of domestic violence violates an individual’s privacy, dignity, security, and humanity, due to the systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological, and economic control or abuse and/or including the abuse to children and the elderly; and WHEREAS, the strength of the Tribe is founded on healthy families and safety of victims of domestic violence, especially women and children and must be ensured by immediate intervention of the Tribal justice system and other responsible and appropriate services; and WHEREAS, violence against women is inconsistent with traditional Confederated Tribes of Siletz Tribal values and will not be excused or tolerated; and WHEREAS, the sovereignty of the Tribal Nation depends on domestic security that supports the respect for the sovereignty of our Tribal women, who keep the bloodlines of our Nations alive; now Silence The C lothesline Project is a visual display that bears witness to the violence against women. During the public display, clothesline will be hung publicly displaying shirts. Each shirt is decorated to represent a particular woman's experience, by the survivor herself or by someone who cares about her. The purpose of the project is: to bear witness to the survivors as well as the victims; to help with the healing process for people who have lost a loved one or are survivors of this violence; and to educate, document, and raise society's awareness of the extent of the problem of violence against women.
