To the editor: I recently nominated our chairman, Dee Pigsley, for an Ecotrust Indigenous Lead ership award for her many years as an outstanding leader for our Tribe. Ecotrust is an organization that supports innovative approaches to developing sustainable economic prosperity. Recognizing the role that Tribes play in the global economy, Ecotrust created the Indigenous Leadership Award in 2001. The Ecotrust nomination process requires submission of a nomination letter, a detailed nomination form and supporting documentation. I enlisted the aid of Tribal Vice Chairman Bud Lane, Tribal Public Information Officer Diane Rodriquez and Assistant General Manager Bonnie Petersen in pulling the nomination package together. An Ecotrust panel reviewed all submitted nominees and narrowed them down to five honorees. The committee selected one finalist among the five honorees. I was very excited when Ecotrust President Spencer Beebe called and notified me that Dee was among the five honorees. A few weeks went by and I was contacted again and told that Dee had been picked as the finalist. I called Dee and told her the wonderful news; we both cried with joy. What a prestigious award! I told Dee she has earned it and then some. What a hard job she has labored for us over the years. So I would like to say to her: God bless you, Mrs. Pigsley. Keep on keeping on. Thank you for all the years you have devoted to our people. Thank you also to Bud, Diane and Bonnie for the part you played in making this happen. Agnes Pilgrim The Beach Boys Beach Boys return with all their hits The classic rock-‘n’-roll band The Beach Boys will be live in concert at Chi nook Winds Casino Resort on Nov. 11-12. Hits like Barbara Ann, In My Room, I Get Around, Wouldn't It Be Nice and Good Vibrations bring back the sounds of summer, sun and simpler times. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. The band was chosen for the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998. In 2001, the group received the Grammy’s Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked The Beach Boys No. 12 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time. The group’s 1966 releases - Pet Sounds and Good Vibrations — frequently rank among critics’ lists of the greatest albums and singles of all time. The record was profoundly influential on The Beach Boys’ contemporaries - Paul McCartney named it one of his favorite albums of all time (with God Only Knows as his all- time favorite song). The original founding members of The Beach Boys are Mike Love, Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson, Dennis Wilson and Alan Jar dine, as well as David Marks and Bruce Johnston. The band has gone through many phases of membership with Love and Johnston consistently in the band. Love has been the lead singer since 1961. Show time is 8 p.m. Tickets range from $40 to $55. To the editor: We really want to thank all involved — the remodel was such a blessing. We received a new main sewer line because ours kept flooding the house. We got new floors and our ceiling was insulated to keep our heating bill under control, which will be so great this winter. We also received a new floor and counter tops (our old kitchen floor was tom and water-damaged) and the old counter wasn’t attached to the wall. Our home was built in 1953, so it is very old and needed an update. The bathroom is my favorite because it benefits my son the most. His wheelchair can fit up to the sink to wash and brush his teeth. We also received new floors in there because our floor was damaged and the bathroom was not conducive to disabled access. I d like to specifically thank Rob Smith in Housing and Leon Araiza and Lavonne Butler of Siletz Valley Builders. I think it’s important to give them due credit. As much of a blessing as it was, it was a lot of work. After the project started, our main sewer line broke, causing two inches of water in the basement that put everything at a standstill. Without some major brainstorming and effort from those people, we'd still be looking at yearly basement flooding. Thank you to everyone for helping us so much. Penny Lane-Garver To the editor: Claire, Marleen, Fawn - Thank you for all of your help and generosity in the energy program. Thank you all so very much.
