Siletz Tribal youth artists invited to enter STEP’S 2012 calendar contest Are you interested in seeing your artwork in a calendar next year? Find your grade and topic in this list and create a colorful picture about that topic. Examples are given for each topic, but your picture does not have to be of the example, just the topic. Send it to us after you fill out the entry form and enter for a chance to win a $100 gift card. All Siletz Tribal youth old enough to create artwork through seniors in high school can participate. Enter the topic based on the grade the child will be enter ing this fall. If no entries are received for a particular grade, entries will be chosen from the younger children’s work as appropriate. Art must be 11” wide x 8.5” tall. Please submit with an entry form. J 1 Time to gather basketry materials Summer is here and it’s time to continue gathering materials for Siletz baskets. Hazel stick gathering is a must for anyone interested in making tradi tional Siletz baskets. Spruce root can be dug all year round and is used for the weavers or weft of Siletz baskets. Bear grass and maidenhair fem are used for overlay to make our tradi tional designs or marks in our baskets and both are picked in late summer. Any Tribal members interested in gathering can call Bud Lane at 800-922-1399, ext. 1320, or 541 -444- 8320, or e-mail budl@ctsi.nsn.us. Just a reminder - basket materials must be gathered in a timely fashion. Here is a general breakdown of gathering times for different materials: August Fir sticks, spruce roots, bear grass, maidenhair fem, hazel sticks (limited), willow sticks September Bear grass, maidenhair fern, woodwardia fem, spruce roots The Siletz Tribal Business Corporation currently is seeking bids from Tribal _ members on RFPs for the contract manager positions at the Hee Hee Illahee RV Resort in Salem, Ore., and Logan Road RV Park in Lincoln City, Ore., that will commence Jan. 1, 2012. 1 All interested parties can contact Stephen Larrabee to get more information 1 on the RFP, which is due by Oct. 31.
