T Regalado in Remission, Now a High School Senior Ashley Regalado, 17, was born in Pendleton, Ore., and moved to Dallas, Ore., at age 13. When she was 15 and a freshman at Dallas High School, she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer). She was treated at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital for more than a year while undergoing chemotherapy. She then had a total knee replacement, blood transfusions, infection, surgeries and other intense treatment. Ashley was a very outgoing young lady. She had worked in the summer through the Siletz Tribe s youth program and was very athletic. She loved being a wrestler and riding her horse. Since her treatment and knee replace ment, Ashley has not been able to be in any sports. She lost a year of school while she was in the hospital. 1 am thrilled to say Ashley is 1 */2 years in remission! She is now a senior at Dal las High School. She goes full time and Tribal Elder Wins at Chinook Winds Donna and Warren Woods entered their PT Cruiser and won Best Display at the 2009 Surf City Car Show at Chinook Winds on Sept. 20. They got a beautiful plaque and a cash prize. Congratulations! to Penn Foster online full time in order to graduate this year. She is very determined and a fighter. She attended her senior year home- coming dance and is looking forward to the future in some kind of nursing (or something to help others). Ashley also was able to travel to Pitts burgh, Pa., to see Taylor Swift in concert through the Make-A-Wish Foundation Green STEP» an Tribes °f S''etZ 'nd'anS reCe""y reCe‘Ved a granl from ,he Administration for Native Americans to create gy management program. Part of the program will be called Green STEPS. Green STEPs (Siletz Tribal Energy Partnerships) will consist of Tribal staff working with federal state and local partners ibal member partners and others to learn about and implement the conservation of our natural resources P Our goal is to empower Tribal members with the ability to maintain healthier, more livable homes control utilitv costs »nd conserve natural resources. Sierra Hill attended her first pow wow Sept. 26 at Chemawa Indian School. It was a fitting place since her family has many ties to Chemawa. Grama Cindy and great-grama Donna were able to dance with her. And by her reaction to the drum, she seems to have the dance in her blood. We love you, Sierra! Murray Belgard On behalf of the 477 Self- Sufficiency Program, we would like to congratulate Jessica Phillips on attaining full-time employment at the Eugene Workforce Network (aka: The Employment Office). Nicholas and Casandra Belgard are proud to announce the birth of our newest little one, Murray Blaine Belgard. Murray was bom Aug. 10, 2009, at 11:16 a.m. in Gresham, Ore. He weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces and was 20 inches long. We are so excited to watch you grow, but not too quick. We love you, Murray! Jessica began as a WEX worker earlier this summer and was hired into the position of office assistant before her WEX placement was even scheduled to end. Again, we wish Jessica continued success. Samuel and Kaela Bardelli Announcing the birth of Samuel Laurence and Kaela Laureen Bardelli, born at Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay, Ore., on Sept. 8, 2009. Samuel was bom at 1:07 p.m., weighing 6 pounds 5>/2 ounces and measuring 20 inches. Kaela was bom at 1:09 p.m., weighing 5 pounds 3 ounces, and measuring 18 inches. Both babies are doing great and are receiving lots of love from their proud parents. Scott and Stephanie, and their two sisters, Mariella and Carmella. November 2009 • Siletz News • 13
