Second Annual Safety Fair was Fun Event for Local Youth and Adults Chinook Winds held its second annual Safety Fair on July 10 in a big tent located in the casino’s south parking lot. Listed among the 19 participating vendors were North Lincoln Fire & Rescue, Siletz Community Health Clinic, Lincoln City Police Department’s DARE Program, the Poison Control Center, the Lincoln City Community Center and the U.S. Coast Guard. Approximately 1,500 children and adults stopped by to enjoy the free event that was coordinated by staff volunteers of Chinook Winds who make up the Safety Committee. Youngsters enjoyed Smokey the Bear's guest appearance sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service, fire engines courtesy of North Lincoln Fire & Rescue and a helicopter flown in from the U.S Coast Guard in North Bend. Raffles took place throughout the day. Knee and elbow pads, sports helmets and bicycle seats were among the items given away, sponsored by the Safety Committee, Bill Stultz Jr. and Jim's Mobile Home Park in Toledo. Marika Pullam, Jamie Mason and Sharon Mason from the Siletz Community Health Clinic share health-related information. A helicopter and crew courtesy of the U.S. Coast Guard Group/Airstation North Bend added interest to the Safety Fair and Carnival held at Chinook Winds Casino Resort on July 10 in conjunction with Smokin'at the Ocean. Crew members from left to right are Rachid Arnick, Jay Guy, J.R. Ninis and Nate Gruver. The helicopter landed in the casino's upper parking lot, much to the delight of Chinook Winds staff and carnival goers who had the opportunity to take an up close look at the orange life saving vehicle seen by most only at a distance patrolling up and down the coastal airway.
