TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS New Elk Tag Opportunity With the approval of the Tribal Council, the Tribal Natural Resources Committee has decided to offer a new type of elk tag to Tribal members beginning with this fall's hunting season. As a landowner, the Tribe is eligible to participate in the state’s Landowner Prefer ence (LOP) program. Based on the number of acres that the Tribe owns, we can get four additional antlerless elk tags from the state. These LOP tags are not related to the Tribe’s Consent Decree tags that we receive each year. They are based solely on the Tribe being a landowner. There are a number of important differences between the LOP tags and the Tribe’s regular tags. These are summarized in the table below. Tribal Members Invited to Community Meetings The Tribal Planning Department in- vites you to attend Community Meetings to discuss Tribal needs and financial op portunities for 2009. This year, each area office will have a meeting and a follow-up meeting. Dates tentatively set for meetings is as follows: Tribal Tags LOP Tags State License Required? Hunting and Fishing Reporting Incentives Continue The Natural Resources Committee has decided to continue its incentive program this year for reporting hunting and fishing tag successes. It’s the tag holder's responsibility to report to the Natural Resources Department Please note that a major difference between the LOP tags and the Tribe’s regular tags is that ONLY the person drawn for the tag can hunt that tag. The tag cannot be given to someone else to hunt for you. Therefore, only those folks serious about hunt ing this hunt themselves are eligible to apply. The drawing for the four LOP elk tags will be held at the Natural Resources Com mittee meeting on April 6 at 4:45 p.m. in the Natural Resources Department’s Map Room. Applications are available in this issue of the Siletz News, on the Tribal website and at the Tribal Natural Resources Office in Siletz after March 1. Everyone who reports filling their tag will be entered into a drawing for prizes. The drawing for the fishing season incentive was held at the Natural Resources Committee meeting in January. Congratulations to Michael Blair, who won a $50 gift card to Sportsman’s Warehouse in Salem. It’s not too late to report your hunting kills for the hunting season drawings and have a chance to win a $100, $75 or $50 Sportsman’s Warehouse gift card. The last day to report is March 27. The drawing will be held at the committee’s April 6 meeting. Remember, it s the person whose name is on the tag who must report if it is filled. This is the person whose name will be entered into the drawing. Your name will be entered into a database and printed on a 1x1 card for the drawing of one of the four available LOP tags. The drawing will be held April 6, 2009, at the Natural Resources Committee meeting in the Natural Resources Department’s Map Room beginning at 4:45 p.m. The person filling out this application must be the person who will do the hunting.
